Just got back from Reeds. Thin Ice! Theres a trail leading out on the ice and some guys are fishing on that (which is 3-4") but if you venture off to the side its only 1-2" thick! 3 guys fell through the ice this morning.
Its just not worth the risk. Looks like its going to get worse before it gets better with the forcast showing a little higher temps in the next day or two
Mother Nature can really suck sometimes

I was out there from about 1-4 out from the launch. Thin ice off to the sides, stay on the main path. Got 2 perch off the bottom in about 30 fow

Is there really Walleye in Reeds? I know there was a plant in the 1970's but I didn't think they would survive that long, and even though I was almost positive that they no longer existed in Reeds, I heard a woman talking about her husband fishing for Walleye in Reeds Lake. I figured she was just mistaken. But you're a GR native right, sfw? Enlighten me.

I used to live in GR CF..
Nahhhh... the eYe plants were a FLOP just like Big Wabasis was....
I was referring to Dutchman's post -- he's going to take his jet drive jon boat out on the Muskegon River!!
THAT is where there's some eYes....

Sorry to confuse.....:evilsmile

There were 7 guys directly out from the launch at Selkirk Lake today. I thought it looked kind of risky, myself, especially seeing open water out in the middle of the lake.

I may have to put on the neoprene and head for the MO myself, if this keeps up. ;)

There is still a bunch of ice in most Kent County lakes, and the fishing is HOT! I got a limit of gills and specks today in about 1 hour and a pike to boot. Edges were a little bit shaky, but there was a good 5 inches of hard ice underneath the sludge. Good luck if you go,
Ben

Got your PM, but was in kind of a rush. I wish I knew you were going. I was one of the 3 guys (black carhartts) just to the left of the path about 50 feet or so heading out. GVSUKUSH stopped out for a while as well. Nothing much to show for it fishwise except for a few nice perch. The good thing was getting to hang out with some good friends, one of which, Tom (Hipskindt) we haven't seen for a long time, since he's in the Army.

Actually, one of the guys who fell in actually fell in twice and then changed his clothes and came back out! :dizzy: Personally, after falling in once, I think I would've moved our fishing party to the nearest watering hole and called it good! :D Well, good luck and be damn careful if you head out anywhere around here soon!

You probally saw me then. I had brown camo on. I saw how thin it looked and stopped drilled a hole, marked fish, but after a few minutes and guys leaving I decided too leave also. There was a guy in Black Cart. that stopped to talk to me on his way off, maybe someone from this site? ( about 2pm or so) I was hoping to get a tip up out and move around and find a nice school of perch, but so much for that idea
Anyway, looks like my next venutre will be Saturday up By Evart on my lake. I sure hope the ice holds up.

I was out there also. seemed to have about 2 inches of good hard ice and 3 soft white on top. I ventured out with my new Christmas gift. FL-8se. found fish and iced 16 perch in 45 min. mostly 8 inchers with a couple of 10's. I was close enough to hear the guy yellin at some one not to walk there because he fell in twice there. But any way I was in 22 fow and catch anywhere from 1 to 3 ft off bottom. I wish I had more time to fish that day could have had a nice mess of fish. But by the time I left I could tell the ice was getting softer and softer.

TV news had a report of a guy who went through the ice today. EGR Public Safety got to play with the rescue boat - guy was OK.

I saw that too! He made it out on his own, but what was the cost to the taxpayers to get the auger? I hope he has to pay for it.
Don't get me wrong, Its just the fact that anyone could see you shouldn't of ventured out there on that day and if he wanted to chance it, then he should pay the price.

I do like that air boat they used. It sure would come in handy for ice fishing right now!

Yeah, I'm really glad he made it out and don't mean to put a dollar value on anybodies rescue, but to be out there in these conditions is insane! The Coast Guard has started billing for certain rescues, maybe the local authorities should look into it as well.
