I planned on fishing today and all day tomorrow, I hope it freezes back up tonight, it's POURING here :( there sure isn't enough ice to handle this major amount of rainfall.

The rain is a bummer . The way I look at it, Normally this time of the year I'm driving down to the lakes and marinas and with luck we have skim ice or possibly shore ice. We'll get out there.

Looks like this week off that I have will be spent around the house. Oh well, it's time for my annual TRY at emptying the basement. Can't seem to throw out enough stuff every year.

Yesterday the ice along the shoreline was going fast. Ice is still out there but how do you get to it without busting through?

Well the rain didn't stop me. I went out tonight with about 2 hours to spare, there was 3/16's of water in spots, 2" of rotten ice and a solid 4" of clear underneath. We was pounded by rain today too I was glad it wasn't worse than it was.

I hit a pocket of gills tonight and everyone of them was as big as my hand. They were also very colorfull compared to the others I've been getting. I had the whole lake all to myself! :D

We have 6 inches solid here. I'm goin with my uncle tomorrow. Conditions could be better, but like someone else said, we're lucky to have ice. I can put up with a little muddy water. And when I fish with my uncle, we could catch nothing and it would still be awesome.

We got out today, with only three bluegill caught, rain didn't seem to affect ice.

nope you must've just missed me, I drove away at 5:45. I didn't fish back there though.

It never got below freezing last night but I'm about ready to head out again, as soon as I have some coffee.

The ice wasn't hurt too bad by the rain/warm weather, HOWEVER, if you fish anywhere near rivermouths or on rivers, be very very careful because they are running and even if the top of the ice looks safe, it could be quickly rotting from underneath.

Yeah, areas of runoff will be very shaky.

Unfortunently, the warmup will continue at least for another week. By warm-up, i mean temps in the mid-upper 30s, not like 50-60s. Obviously, tempertures barely above freezing won't hurt the ice, but, this rain might, espessially around areas of runoff.

It looked like we were going to have a foot thick of ice by now, but, that is Michigan for ya.

Next -8- days warm temps around 39 to 40 for highs. After that back to the good old Michigan Jan. Cold.

If the ice stays, and the temps drop soon, than well be back out in two weeks:help:

40' tomorrow and rain tomorrow night, forget the ice. If today was the last day of ice fishing I would be thankfull for such an successfull season, this has been the best year ice-fishing I've ever had and I am very tired of cleaning fish already.

My 6 yr old sat with me and watched me clean fish for 2 1/2 hours straight tonight, she didn't break attention once. I hope we get better ice so I can take her too.

It didn't effect the ice here. 5" solid. Caught an 18" bass and 3 pike today. 4/4 on tip-ups. Not bad.

Think we will test out our new shanties somewhere this week. The ice should hold up in most areas though. It will melt off the snow and that crap slush ice, but, the solid ice should stay, and will be bare when the next cold blast comes meaning we should have a lot of ice.

Guess you don't follow the weather reports too closely?

What Stumpjumper meant to say is . You better get a closer look at the weather. A check of the 14 day forecast calls for the next 7 or so days to be in or close to 40 for the day temps. Try accuweather.com.

LMAO!!!! That is one of the funniest things ever said on this site!!! Been forcasting, tracking, predicting, ect weather for hours a day since i was 4, me and Jeremy L. are the weather men on this site.

Trust me, i know the forcast. We will see rain one day this week(wends into Wends night) the rain will be showery but we could get about .35 inches, which is a decent amount. But, temps will still be around 35-38 degrees, as the will all week, which is not a threat to the ice conditions. Temps barely above freezing won't hurt the ice any. Though, the rain is a concern, we did get a lot of rain Chrismas eve into the day.

BTW, this (http://www.crh.noaa.gov/ifps/MapClick.php?MapType=3&site=DTX&CiTemplate=1&map.x=193&map.y=208)
is the site you should be looking at, this is the source where every weather site and station get their forcast.

Ice is getting real bad, I am not going on it for the next week, at least. I prefer to do my swimming in the summer.

Reminds me of an old joke. Three guys doing a little August fishing in the bass boat. Bob ges hot, jumps overboard to cool off and never comes back up. Mike jumps in to look for him, comes back up and says "Ive found Bob tangled in some seaweed". Mike goes back down and returns to the boat, says, "I cant seem to cut Bob loose and he is not respondng to my cpr attemps", "and I never noticed that he had such bad breath, or that he was wearing a snowmobile suit."

Well in advance predictions with above normal temps are forecast for the next 10 days.Rain is also predicted for tommorow and tommorow night. If the conditions forecasted are correct then unfavorable ice making conditions will exsist.

If that's an indication of where the TV and radio people get their info, I think I'll stick to using MY ACHING SINUSES!

Can't do any worse than the TV guys.

Well young man, all I'm going to say is you better tread lightly out there because if the weather predictions hold true the ice will not be safe. It was getting shaky after the first rain we had + the wind. You might be wise for your years but remember, there's alot here older and wiser they didn't get that way by being stupid.

You can chance it. I allready have a freezer full. ;) I do hope you are right though. :)

I know, now it is getting to where i even will use caution on the ice. I think i will stick to the shallower areas for now.

Thats a good Idea. In 2 to 3 weeks we'll all be heading out on nice firm ice. Good time to fish the 1 to 2 foot depth with a hard bottom or get the gear ready.

Anyone out on the ice after todays weather is just plain crazy. I can't believe this ****...

Of course this happens right when I get a bunch of new Jammin Jigs in the mail. :fish:
