I am fairly new to ice fishing, only 3 years. The only lakes I have fished are four mile and crooked in waterloo, they are about 45 min from me. I have only got very small gills on crooked and a few at that. In the three years on 4 mile on the ice(do great in the summer) I have iced 1/2 doz pike and never caught any panfish. Was in hope of some sugestions on some other lakes in that area (dont want to steal anyones honey hole) or maybe when the ice firms up a bit maybe someone to show me a few things on the ice that can maybe help me get some more fish in the pan. Thx in advanced for any help. Happy holidays!

The north end of Gilletts Lake has some 6'-10' deep flats with weed beds. The fishing is good there when the water is soft. However, the public access is at the south end of the lake. There's a deep hole just off the ramp, but otherwise it's pretty shallow (3') until you get to the east side (off the picnic shelter) and the north end.

FFF, there are so many lakes out that way it's hard to even start. Clark, Vineyard, Devils and Sand are the big ones that I can think of. There are lots of smaller lakes that are fun to fish and a lot of the time you would probably be the only person fishing the lake. They sell a book at a lot of Outdoor stores called The Fishermans Connection, they have the state divided up into areas and they list, county by county, the public access lakes and they also reveal stocking data, bottom contour, etc.. Invaluable tool, well worth the $20.
