Went out midday Friday, steady gill action but a ton of dinks. Set the tip-up with dead smelt and iced a 27" pike right away. Got another flag about an hour later and had a much larger fish on. Got his head in the hole and lost him due to not having a gaff. Lesson learned, I'm making a gaff before my next outing. I've never been much of a pike fisher, that was my first northern through the ice, but I think I am hooked now. Thanks to all who have ever posted a tip-up for pike tip, I read through a ton of them for direction. I made a simple quick strike rig utilizing a 6 foot leader of 30 lb. Powerpro to a barrel swivel on the dacron.
