Hi all,
I have been using Fireline since it came out. I troll and cast with it and it does fray. Any ideas or suggestions for a similar product that does not fray. Otherwise I will continue to clip 10' off each time to get fishing with non frayed Fireline. I heard of Pro line but have not tried it. Otherwise I will stick with Fireline. (I do not like the braided line products, monofilaments or flourocarbons) Your suggestions are apreciated.
Thanks.
Pete
I have switched exclisively to Power Pro the past few years. It is leaps and bounds ahead of Fireline.

Stren superbraid, or Power Pro, I prefer the Stren it seems to come off the reel smoother for me.

Have you considered one of the co-polymers from Gamma or P-Line? I switched to Gamma Technologies 8 lb on my spinning reels and 12 lb on my baitcaster and like it a lot. Good abrasion qualities, highly sensitive, low stretch, and I would challenge you to break the 12 lb off a snag without firing up your big motor! I actually cut my hand last season trying to break off a snag. Ended up having to use a knife.
Used to use spider wire. Frayed badly. Tried fireline... same issue. And they all seem to "flatten out" over time.

Another recomendation for Power Pro. The best "super line" out there.

Power Pro on the baitcasters and P-Line on my spinning rods. Many of the tournament fishermen I know use this combination. I've never broken off a fish using either, and have pulled many a log/stump/irrigation pump from the bottom without breaking. You will also be quite surprised at the amount of "feel" you have with PP, you will rarely miss a hit.

i've cut myself several times on hooksets w/ pline. its pretty good line. it does have some stretch to it though.
w/ the newer mono/polymer lines i don't think braid is really necessary for much anymore.
about the only thing i would use it for is flipping pads or heavy cover. braid will cut through vegetation, and you can really hog 'em out with it. visibility usuallly isn't an issue either.

I was actually fishing with thedude when I cut my hand...
I have one spool with fireline on it... haven't put it on my reel in 2 seasons now.

Cabelas Ripcord works wonders for me!

I also used fireline from when it first came out and it
does fray quick and the ice builds upquick when it gets cold.
The last couple of years now I have used Power Pro only..
10/2 and 6/20 get the job done for me and last one heckofallotlonger..

:yeahthat:
I also used Fireline when it first came out, but after a few years switched to Power Pro, and have been using it exclusively for the past 6 or 7 years. 20# (6# eq) on my salmon rod/reels (pier fishing) and on the rivers I use a 10# (2# eq) leader.
I can't remember about Fireline, but with Power Pro you can't use a regular cinch knot because it will slip, so I use a Uni knot to tie on my lures and a Uni-to-Uni to tie on a leader.
... and Power Pro is on my casting reel right now. If it gets much below freezing... I will put on the spare spool filled with mono.
Cabela's Ripcord (and Ripcord Si) are somewhat similar to Power Pro and are also pretty good.
Fireline is ok for applications where the line is not going back and forth thru the rod guides repeatedly because it does fray an awful lot.

Thanks all for your suggestions! I will switch to Power Pro and give that a try. I value all of your tried, tested and true input. What a great knowledge base of Fishing on this awesome site. I hope you all get some kool lures and equipment for the Holidays! Thanks Again, Pete
