I have never had the fortune of shooting a buck big enough to take to the taxidermist. However, I know that you can have a set of antlers put on a cape of any mature deer.

I have a non-typical rack from a deer that was taken by my grandfather many years ago. The rack is mounted on a basic mounting board and the antlers have been removed from the skull plate.

Question 1: Can this rack be mounted and still appear "natural:
Question 2: Can this rack still be scored (CBM, P&Y ect) without a spread
measurement?

Thanks

Answer #1 - Yes, but it has to be done by a very credible taxidermist.
Answer #2 - I believe CBM has a "sheds" scoring catagory. As far as an "offical" score I dont see how it could be done and be precise.

Burksee is correct except that it CANNOT be scored do to the skull plate being broken. The skull plate must be intact to be scored. There is a shed and pick up division in CBM, but your rack is really neither.

If my grandfather had a buck to mount, I would in a heartbeat.

As far as mounting the rack yes you can and it is no big deal. You could expect to pay $150.00 extra for a cape or if you or a friend get a deer that you are not going to mount you can give the taxidermist that cape to mount your antlers.
