Does anyone take them anymore? I have a large one in very good shape from a doe I took this year. I thought Salvation Army used to take donated ones...anybody know where I could take this one? I refuse to throw it away. If I can't get rid of it, I will tan it...

My father in law buys all the deer hides in Michigan, we are here in Belding, MI about 35 min NW of Grand Rapids.

I'm sure if you take it to a local processing plant they will usually give you a few dollars for it.

I take mine to a local TC guy. In exchange for a hide he gives me some nice rawhide fleece lined mittens. You can also get gloves instead, but the mittens are awesome. I have 3 pairs and I get a new pair every year. So far this year I have taken in 3 big, quality buck hides all in good shape( 2 for me, 1 for a friend) so I should get back 3 pairs of mittens. If the hides are small or damaged and they cannot be fully utilized you might need 2 or even 3 hides to get a pair of mitts. This is the best deal I have found for a deer hide. There is too many people that just throw them out with the carcass which is such a waste in my opinion. If you want the guys name let me know.

pahtridge hunter, there is a place just north of you on the corner of m-15 and doge road that buys hides but i think he only gives a few bucks for them. or you could get it tanned and have a nice throw to throw over the back of your couch or hang on a wall or trow down on the floor in front of the fireplace or something :D :D :D

I have the guy pick up my hides from my grampas house and a few weeks later he drops off some mittens for me. He doesnt make them himself. I think he buys a big bulk order of these gloves and mittens and he just trades them for the hide. Or you can get paid a couple bucks for it. I find far more value in the mittens than a couple bucks so I always get them. They are well worth it. I am not sure what he does with the hides but I think he sells them to some company that makes deerskin products. They really are the BEST mittens for ice fishing. I waterproofed one pair last year with snoseal and they are awesome for picking up tip ups and such. If anybody wants his name just pm me.

A typical deer hide will fetch 4 -5 dollars - depending on size, where hit, and time of year taken. A fawn taken in October will only get you a buck or two if your lucky. Look on the DNR website for buyers nearest you and give them a call. One guy that owns a metal reclaim center near Waterford buys hides -I don't have his name offhand but I know he was listed last year.

By the way - a 180+ dressed buck taken late in the year could bring in $6.

Yeah, not looking for a ton of money, just a good alternative to throwing them out. I give some to my taxidermist, but he can only use so many and of a certain size.
