Does anyone know what kind of polarized sunglasses are the best. Do they have like a rating on how well you can see into the water? I have contacts now and need a pair of sunglasses that are good but not over $50 bucks.
Thanks for any help.

I just buy the el-cheapos from Gander or whatever. I lose a pair a year. I like the amber colored ones. No doubt someone will chime in that they'll make you go blind in 5 years and you need $200 Orvis something or other.
Nah, not Orvis, Serenghetti Strata's.
Ditto on the Amber or 'enhancing' lens colors. Both the cheaper 'fishing' brands and the more expensive types seem to work about the same to me in terms of polarization. The more expensive ones are often a lot lighter so that can be nice - I love my Maui Jims because of the weight and toughness. Of course I did manage to loose a pair last season

They would come in handy if a half-dead salmon bumps into your leg while taking a canoe out of the PM

When you are buying polarized glasses you want to buy the best pair you can afford. If you are on the water alot and wear them all day long for several days in a row, if you have cheap glasses you will deffinatly suffer from some sort of eye fatigue. I have used the cheap $15 dollar specials and by the end of the day I always had a headache. I went out and spent some coin on some costa del mars with glass lenses and my headaches went away. I found that I was less tired at the end of the day too. I fish in alot of bass tournaments and i am on the water at least 3 days a week from april through october so it pays for me to have good quality glasses. If you are only going to use them a few times a year I would say buy the $20 specials, but if you are on the water alot spend the money and get a good pair.

I agree with fishon1219. There are two pieces of equipment a fisherman should spend all he can afford. A good rain/wading jacket and glasses. Take care of a quality product and it will last a long time. Now if you are like the half dozen or so flyfishermen that report every year about leaving a $500 rod and reel on top of a car, or next to and drive off, buy the cheapo's!!!!!! Riverman

What brands are good in quality for around 30-50 dollars? I want a good pair because i will use them almost everyday this spring/summer.

There is a company called Lure eyes that sells quality glasses for about $80. The problem I have found with fishing glasses is they either are under $25 or over $100. Try a google search for them and you will find them. I think Bass pro sells them via the catalog as well.

hey redneck! my own personal recommendation is for costa del mars but they might be a little out of your price range----you might check out the back of the current jan. 06 in-fisherman cause they're offering polarized fishing glasses for around 30-40 bucks and they dont look too bad :fish: :fish:

I couldn't agree more with a couple of the threads above. Mainly that if you will wear them a bunch, go for a higher quality pair. If you only wear them occasionionally, well then most any would do. Loved the rain gear comment as well - it is so true. If you really use something, you'll never regret buying quality.
If you want a really good understanding about what some extra money can get you and the difference in polarization techniques and optics, check out www.rudyprojectusa.com - they have a great section explaining a ton about their optics and a new polarization.
I have been using Rudy's for a few years and will stick with them. Had a rock hit me in the lens going 50+ in the boat (must have been up by the trolling motor and dislodged???) and it only left a slight scratch in the lens - scared the bejeesus out of me, though.
Rudy also has a LIFETIME replacement lens guarantee - if you ever damage or scratch a lens, they relpace for life for about $10. Advice would be to get the best you can afford...and if you really live in the things, save up and/or ask Santa for them in 2006.
PM me if you'd like to know more. Best of luck for 2006.

I got myself a good pair of Ray Ban's at Dicks last summer. Love these glasses. Great optics. They were like $80 though. I also keep a couple pair of cheapies in my truck for people I fish with to use if they don't have any (or if I happen to leave the Bans at home).

My last 2 pair have been from BPS off the sunglass rack for $15.00. I also like the Amber ones. But I wear mine ALL the time, not just for fishing and don't have any problem with them. I could never pay big $$ for sunglasses cuz if I don't lose em I break em.

Take a peek at www.hydrooptics.com I bought the Platininum Series, a little pricey at $119.00. They come with three different colored lens
They also offer a H-30, Sports Series, three interchangeable lens, carrying case etc. $49.95. :dizzy:
These people have a great product. :grouphug: I like em!

I used to own the H30's, they were nice for a while but then the lenses all split apart into layers. After that they were worthless. Same thing with a pair my buddy had. Now I have some ocean waves that I love, but at $159 a pair they are a little out of your price range. When I was looking for glasses one of the companies I considered was called Action Optics, they had some polycarbonate glasses for around $60. I'd check into them.
