A few years ago I went to metro on a Fri. and Killed the perch in the back basin got a two man limit. Thier was only about 15 people fishing back there. The next day I went back (Sat.) and it was a zoo I had never seen that many peeple trying to fish one spot. I aksed the lady when we paid to get in how many poeple came in she said "oh about a 1000" and I'm not kidding 90% were fishing the back basin. All because I posted a report the day before. So how many times have you had your day ruined by the web? Me I will never post anything on perch unless its a sunday to help people out for Monday. If someone needs help or something I'll PM but not post. And it bothers me when other people post specifics about where to catch fish because I'd rather find fish on my own. Nothing worse than pulling in a parking lot and hereing they were here yesterday and then seeing 1000 people trying fish next to eachother.

Same thing happened to our spot on Lake Fenton Crappie spot..One to many people found out and told everyone and there brother, and it was over run.
Up in the UP our hunting camp buddies were telling us how there dad was icefishing Gogebic and pulling walleye's through like no other and the next day people would be fishing out of the same hole! Its like they used binocs and spied on him! This has happened more then one time to some one on this site i bet..
Somtimes best to keep it to yourself.. Just post your success but not the lake..

Just post your success but not the lake..
That's the way I do it on any inland lake. I saw a post on a different site last year about a lake I fish a lot, when I went there that weekend there were 10x the number of people as the weekend before.
It's not generally the site members that over run an area either...it's the lurkers :smile-mad
On the bigger waters it could be a coincedence, but I wonder sometimes.

when it comes to duckin i like to stay tight lippd. when ur duck hunting its not very fun to compete w/ some one else... or even worse have them get pizzed at me for callin all the birds in then shooting just to scare em off. so i dont realy say when and where on the web... but fihin i dont mind. because its a diffrent avenue. people are gunna see ya out there pullin ur rod up and putting fish in the bucket or on the ice no matter what. i was out at farehaven a week ago and was catchin perch as fast as i could get my line back in the water... all dinks but the movement of me catching hand over fist mad like 15 people all come from close in shore to not even 15 ft from where i was in a hot second. it happens. the next day, i saw twice as many people out there, and right where i was. im not mad. iv never a day in my life got a limit of perch, and im not worried about any one else takin em from me. its a big lake. dont let little things like that ruien it for ya. its just nice to be out there... and if anything, cut a hole next to a guy and make a new friend... good luck to ya. :)

I hear ya, I don't mind on bigger water.I'll generally say if I was on St.Clair,Saginaw Bay/River, or if I fish the major trout rivers.
I worked with a guy so paranoid of someone fishing his spot he carried a 5 gallon bucket with a hole in it and fished in the bucket so no one could spot what he was catching  I'm not nearly that worried about it!
I think it depends whats posted and where it's at.If you posted you caught walleye out of an inland lake around my house I guarantee you will see more people in that spot!
I usually fish alone and like to talk to people,so don't mind if guys come by me :)

When I post for the lake I give a general idea of the area and the species of fish that were takin. Like the Raft reports I put out it only says the raft not the canals near by, but if your a newbie to gills I'll take and meet a guy out a show them a little something. Some guys use these reports to sort out what they may do for the day. Most fishermen like myself like to fish the fish not the bite. Even a pm might get you in troble with your buds, I did this and it back fired. I'll still give up spots under the tight lip rule. Nothing like running the ice for some hunry fish. Don't think for a second that your report got that place hot the next day that kind of stuff was going on long before the internet. Some dudes run around all day getting info for the next days fish outing.

While this site has a lot of members who icefish and twice as many "guests" reading the posts I doubt very much that this would be a major factor in the increased activity of a particular lake or the particular area of a lake. Many spots have there "days" and fair weather fishermen are more common than not so if the sun's up and winds down you can bet the activity of any given area will increase, especially on the weekends.
For the record, as far as "spill'in the beans" on hot spots did anyone get a chance to read they're "Michigan Out of Doors" magazine? My December issue came Saturday, there's a lot more information about "hot spots" in that one article then I've ever read here!

Haven't ran into that yet on LSC...It's such a big lake and the perch move so much that it's a challange to keep on them.....90% of the time I just give the location, like "Fairhaven", but even then it's 12 square miles of water you're dealing with.
Thought about making up some #'s once and posting them on a weekend......Just to see how many people show up!!

Yep. That's fishing. You tell one person (on here your telling thousands) and then they tell 10 people then they tell 10 people. Next thing you know everyone who fishes wants to get to that hot spot. This is not a new phenom and it goes with any outdoor venture. Word of mouth advertising is the most effective. Telling stories about fishing adventures is fun but fishing with with 100 people is not.
Never give holes, only give general info if you want to avoid this. Do a search on the flyfishing section to see how bed it gets. You've been here for over a year, some rivers you can't even mention or it will get to much pressure and smaller tribs can't handle that. PM'ing is a great way to still help others out who are willing to help you out with tips too :)

When I report fishing is hot at Fair Haven, I'll most likely be somewhere else.
(you know, send everyone in the opposite direction)

The solution to the problem here is not to post a location but to post a situation such as water depth, bottom type and weed cover, water clarity, bait, lure color etc. This would allow people to search out a spot with similar conditions and maybe even have it to themselves instead of everyone piling into the same location.

I don't post a lot, (mostly because I don't have time) but I've always been honest about my reports and have never felt the need to hide information or location. I never really thought about, post a location and the next day it is filled with fishermen. I never thought about it because I don't use posts to pick where I fish. Just because someone says they caught fish there today doesn't mean they will be there tomorrow. I guess part of being an avid fisherman is knowing how to read a body of water and locate fish or knowing where to go on the ice to find fish, isn't that part of the thrill of fishing.
I really hope we don't have members on this site that post bogus reports. If you don't want to give location, don't. Bogus reports reminds me of some Salmon Charter Captains. Some will help out and tell you where they got fish and others I know will just plain lie to you. These same captains change baits on the way in so as not to let you know what was working for them, I have 0 respect for these guys. Take your baits off, but change them to miss lead someone.
LOL...I'm not sure where I'm going with this. I guess my point is, I've don't have a problem posting where I caught fish, but then again I've never been invaded by a bunch of guys either.

Thanks to some big mouths who reported a good generous bait shop, fail to realize that the next time they go there to get bait, don't be surprised to find them sold out. Not to mention (because of their big mouth) the lost time in search of another place to buy bait.

i was just reading all the posts on this topic as a guest, cause i was not signed in & now i'm wondering why someone would post just enough info to make it look like your bragging  i thought this site was for people who get lucky or are just good at fishing to help the others find and catch more fish? i allways try to give as much info as i can when i go good or bad.if you just want a general fishing report the dnr site has one that is pretty general.that is what makes this site different right? it helps guys like me to know where the bigger perch are bitting at LSC when your driveing from pinckney or some guy from monroe is wantin to get into some walleye on sag bay. right? if everyone obeys the laws the fish will be there tomorrow ;) what is it 10% of us catch 90% of the fish anyways
one more thing, i have had alot more fun catching 2 or 3 fish in the little cities that pop up on LSC than sittin on a bucket by myself catchin about the same :yikes: :yikes:

I hope you guys know that I was just kidding. I would never send people on a wild goose chase.
I do and will post honest and accurate reports and generally give general areas such as Metro beach, Gino's, Fair haven.......You also got to realize fish don't stay put long. They are moving constantly. Might be in the same general 1/2 mile area for a few days or even a week.
Will I share specific spots, yes if asked via e-mail or PM's.

Just so you know Mike, no accusations intended to you or anyone else on this site

I often wonder sometimes about bogus reports. You get'em from bait shops. I figured most of you would know I was kidding but to those who don't know me.....

Guys you know what I find to be better than posting where you caught fish is the method in the way you got your limit, I dont know how many times I have posted the method I use to be productive and just told a general area of where I fished, because if you do the right method you will catch fish..
I have learned to raise my catch ratio by listening to other fisherman and what they use to be productive and incorperated in my style of fishing, and it has definatley up my catch ratio over the years.. Cya Slick
