You know with all the dinks caught this fall, and I mean 100's, I can't see where it would be any different this winter :( Oh I'm sure there will be good days but from what I'm reading it don't looking promising, I will have to make a few trips across the pond (Mitchell's Bay) and see if we can get into a few larger perch over there :fish: :fish:

So whats up over harvesting to many muskie? I hope I dont have a repeat of last year. I remember 5 years ago I was getting good catches of perch every weekend. This isnt a good sign first ice and no fish anywhere. NO SALMON NO PERCH I'm starting to wonder why I buy a fishing license.

We were getting a bunch of 5 inchers last year this year we are getting a bunch of 7 inchers. next year everyone will be an expert with buckets of 9 inchers. Last year the ice didn 't freeze far enough out to get into the true Jumbos. the jumbos were found in areas of curent or warmer water, making it hazardous to fish for them most of the time. This Fall was a bang up as far a fat large perch. they are out there, We just need ice to get to them.

Mitchell's bay might be a good option. The ice is not good enough there for me right now. The good thing is this deep freeze we had. The farm fields should be frozen enough to hold the water and help with the cloudy conditions. It always amazes me how those fields dump dirty water, even on some cold winters. Good luck If you don't like the size of fish your getting in your spot, Make a move. Keep moving until you find the right size. its a big lake.

These small fish make you really happy to pull in a 8 incher. We managed to pull another 50 or so between 2 guys in a day of fishing in the canals between metro. Tons of fish that you looked at and debated over...and sent them home for another day.

Could not have said it better myself!!! The big fish are out there, right under your noses too. I drilled a hole today where I fished and was amazed when I set up the shanty and looked in the hole. Couldnt see the bottom because there were so many fish in the water colum and alot of Big Perch.

Keep moving is the best that you can do!

That a boy YELLOWBELLY, now your talking.....Ive never done that, but many times i thought to myself, I need a spear....for the slobs that will only look at your bait, and then swim away....Still like the conventional way, but there are times i feel a little :evilsmile :smile-mad

I think the reason the past few years havent been good to me in part because of my new partner. He likes to bring the house (shanty) and anything he can fit in it fishing. Then he sits in one spot fish or no fish. Me I like to fish on a bucket and move alot but havent been doing it mcuh the past few years. I dont mind the shanty when I'm catching fish but when I'm not I move. His thing is relaxing first and if he catch's fish its a bonus. If I go out on a bucket to freeze my ass off best belive I want something to show for it. I'll walk two miles out if I have to.

you dont need a spear for the slobs...you need a wiggler...they are PROGRAMMED to bite them....all you gotta do is lay it on the bottom dead still and they WILL eat it

thats my experience

oh yeah, a red hook and a GID bead helps too!

I agree, on bottom is best way to get the big guys. i always put a minnow from my spreaders laying on bottom and do best on that hook. also my swedish pimple tipped with minnows does best when just lifted from the mud

too many perch there might not be enough food for them all to grow large...everything needs to be balanced. if the predators dont' keep the numbers down only the most dominate will grow large. perch populations must be balanced with food supplies.

with that said, last spring i saw some large ones caught at 9 mile for about a month straight 9-11"s...They are out there, just not in the numbers we'd like to see..

good luck

You make a point, but I gotta believe that LSC has plenty of forage base, and could support a huge population of dink perch toward success. With so many species of fish, all the connecting waterways, and IMO LSC has plenty of predators to balance the herd. With all the Birds, Walleyes, Smallies, Muskies, Us, etc. Shoot, it's a darn eating frenzy out there.:evilsmile

Limige, I don't agree w/your statement @ all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The point I'm trying to make is don't kill what your not gonna eat!!!!!!!! I agree w/ fisheater! You must not be on the Lake enough to understand A) plenty of food!, b) predators, not to mention what commorants do to are fish population....
