Just a reminder.

EUP Deer Camp Survey information is due, don't forget to send in your information, like I did. Terry Minzey of the MiDNR Shingleton Office just sent me a reminder. I filled it out this morning and will have it in the mail today.

FWIW, my '05 sightings were lower than last year (3 less days hunted). Deer sightings per day remained about the same. I rated '05 as good.

Days Hunted........ '05 8,...'04 11
Antlered Bucks..... '05 9,...'04 12
Mature Does ........'05 34,..'04 47
Fawns................ '05 36,..'04 30
Unknown............. '05 8,...'04 11

It's not the most scientific survey but it's better than nothing. It does give you a feel for what's going on in your area so get involved if you want your voice heard.

The one thing I can see from my records is that fawn recruitment is up from 2.7 sightings per day to 4.5 sightings per day. I'm sure our early '05 spring played a major factor in helping with fawn survival.

Wolf sighting doubled from 4 to 8 in my section alone. I curious to see the total EUP results on this item.

I've been participating in the similar western U.P. deer camp survey for 10 years and I feel that it is very important deer managment tool. You don't have to own a deer camp to participate eithor. I know of people that hunt on public land that are participants. Volinteers keep track of all deer and certain other animals sighted during firearm deer season. They also record the days and hours hunted along with the deer killed. The results are tabulated and made available to participants and deer managers. The western U.P. deer camp survey is maintained by Craig Albirght at the Escanaba DNR office.
