Ive seen that perch before. Right in that area. Last year fishing near Cotton, could not believe my eyes, did not believe it was a perch. But 2 feet of gin clear water it was easy to identify. :yikes: I was hoping to get her this year.

If someone catches it please post a pic. If you do not have a cam let me know and I will come over to take a pic to be posted. A 18 inch perch is something that everyone should see. To be honest I do not think that one of that size is around to be caught as the state record listed is 21 inches taken in 1947. But then you never know.

The 1947 record perch came from Lake Independance north of Marquette. I used to fish Lake Independance often during the summer. We would catch some real jumbos while walleye and pike fishing. But I,m talking 12 to 13 inchers. An 18 incher, I wonder if it glowed like some of those Fermi walleye from Lake Erie that people talk about?

I may have had a chance at it last year in the same area. My hook set just missed its upper lift when it sucked my bait in. I think the hook was not big enough.

My neighbor at Kellys island (OH) has a mount of an eighteen inch perch his father caught in 1964 in Lake Erie. It is astonishing to see. Even more incredible is that the Ohio state record perch is only 14 1/2 " (but 2.5 lbs). This perch would have beat that by a mile, but his dad didn't take it in to have it weighed!

Don't worry I won't post a picture, this is a family site, but if you go to: www.hu... (http://www.hu...) just kidding.
I would love to see someone catch a perch that big. If one that big is caught do you think Cabela's might take it and put it on display? It certainly would be an attraction and I would drive there to see it.

Would the marks from the spear make it unmountable? If a perch that big comes thru my hole its getting impaled....or its gonna have marks from MY teeth in it.....

Over the past couple years, Perch have gotten HUGE in the Lake erie area. Consistently catching 12+ inchers like never before(dad says never use to catch perch this big ever, going back to the 60s).
I guarentee there are 18+ inch perch out there somewhere and the new state record, these perch are getting rediculously big.

That would be a huge Perch. Here's what one that size would look like. This fish is almost 19 inches. It is a reproduction.

18in? Not sure, but I know as a youngster (man that was a long time ago) in the late 40s-early 50s we caught a lot of 16-17in. (never weighed) from the headwaters of the Ocqueoc river between lakes Emma and May. Looking at the map it must have been Horseshoe Lk. Didn't really think to much about it at the time. Also HUGE sunfish, and LOTS of good size northerns. Great time to be a kid :D

My wife has outdone me several times on St. Clair with a 15" and a 15.5". I caught a 14.5" so she rubs it in a lot.
18" would be an old fish for sure.
