went out again today . the fish were a bit smaller ,but i saw some nice ones on the ice in the 10-11 inch range.i took home 10 all about 8 inches.never used any bait. jigging rapala and a russian.probably hooked 200 fish.tossed back 25-50 6-8. captain dan at lakeside said that buisness is the worst he has ever seen in 35 years. had to lay off his entire crew. shop there if you can, thats the last thing we need is another bait store out of buisness.he also said that a couple of guys stormed some big fish out on the lake ,but wouldn't tell where because they fell thru coming back.anyone know who they were? also i guess monday night i had some good reports at dusk for some big fish in the marina by the gas docks.they are in there its just the right day right time. i was fishing a foot below the ice in 4 feet of water by the boat cranes. the fish were fighting to get hooked.a couple swam out of the hole.this weekend were gonna try marinas near metro or the venitian.depends on the ice conditions .buddies went to the raft yesterday .took home 46 perch.i didn't see the size.hope this report helps

Thanks for the report dt ;) I have a question for ya bro ??????where at the Raft did your buds possible get into any perch. Behind the Raft resturant is knowin to be sunnie and gill grounds there really has'nt been perch in there for years, when the water was high it was great. A good report is nice for the guys that can't do the leg work, but I think it would be kinda of a bummer to show up at a place like the Raft thinking your going to get into some perch and find gills the take of the day. Not calling anyone out alls cool just my kinda wondering I've fished that little bay for 23 years and know it well.

the raft report came second hand. i don't doubt the source cause we all fish together a lot.the 2 old timers i talk about were the ones fishing.these guys fish 3-5 days a week. sometimes they find fish we'll never know about. i just try to report it if i can.they were talking about 4 inches of ice so it could be on the lake but their old so i guess they didn't venture too far offshore.we never walk more than 1/2 mile when i fish with them. they have showed me lots of places , from conger to ,the point at metro ,to the back basin, to brandenburg condo's ,so i never doubt their reports. i still have not seen a perch over 11 inches and only one of those that was close.so i'll keep reporting just to keep the members on fish if i can.the regulars know how honest i am with my reports. its just sometimes i have to cloak my exact spots so they do not get over run , but selected members sometimes get p.m.'s .seems fair that way. give the info to the guys who have helped the most people. you know who you are. :grouphug:

Double,

Probably the best first ice report of the season, I still cannot believe they are on Lake St. Clair but I am not really a hard water guy. I saw the first guys on Middle Straights today and they stayed out there for about 10 minutes which tells me they got spooked. LOL.

Good fishing.

i fished behind adiamos today and caught a lot of fish left super early cause the wind these fish that you say are 11 inchers do you put them to a tape biggest ive caught out of their between 3 guys and a week and a half has maybe hit 10 unofficial and 9.5 on a tape officially not trying to call you a lier but if i where to drive an extra couple miles to get their and be stuck catching the same size fish i do behind my house id be angry. i know the first few nines i put on the ice looked like elevens till i put them up to the tape oh yea dan always complains about buisness i used to work their i sold so much crap i think i made the endonesians painting it rich! mayb if he put a little more customer appreciation behind his values buisness would be better. that place has really taken a dive, poor minnow dips if even shiners to little walleye minnows whats up with the ken spoon selection? asked for one color chrome and red ....still not their selfridge had it days ago

Hope the bigger fish are out in the deeper water once the ice gets thicker.

:yeahthat:

Very seldom have I gotten bigger perch in the marinas..... IMO a 9" out of a marina or canal is a decent fish.

Thanks for the report dt... Looks like I get to go play on sunday. :)

With keeping my boat in a marina and knowing how nasty that water is with all the oil gas and other contaminates in it...I have never been thrilled with marina fishing....the fish may be fine...maybe it's just something in my head

like i said i saw 1. i did tape mine at home. all 8 inches . the bigger one i saw ,it was pretty clear how big it was. as u see, i fish a lot and at work i use tape measures all day so my guestimate is very accurate. monday night in the same spot a school of big fish came in. i left at 2 so i missed them.we know that first ice these fish run for ice cover. thats why the marina's and canals are so good first ice.hey, after 2 years and over 1000 posts on this board you guys know my reports , you have seen the fish , check my gallery. i want everyone on here to get better at fishing ,thats why i report so often . as far as accuracy, if you doubt me, than lets fish together , i'll school ya.the gauntlet has been set now step up to the plate.

I agree the bigger fish do move into and out of the marinas. In times past it was not uncommon to pull a nice catch of 10 to 12 inch perch from canals and marinas. I don't recall getting those big deep water perch 13 to 14 inches though. The lake has changed and there are a lot small fish (getting bigger all the time) The past few years I have put marks on my tackle box and shanty showing 8" 9" and 10" . I personally would rather go home with out fish, than sit home cleaning 7 and 8 inch perch all day.

Didnt mean to bash youre thread but just stating the truth people here you caught all big ones then they travel and it may be for nothing at all the only nice fish i saw was in my hole and if i had a net it wouldnt have gotten away and maybe hit the wall 14" at least .If you want to take a run for it lets fish together pm me or call me since you fish in the same spot (my backyard) one catch though all artificial and im half the age but a little tourney on the ice sounds like a blast!! oh yea and were in the same trade so im pretty handy with a tape too maybee we should take along a carpenter though just for official results!!!lol

7" inch i can understand, but bring on the 8 inchers all the do-da-day. Eds just spoiled, when you have 30 lbs in surplus for the winter, you can be picky :corkysm55

For cleaning I prefer the 10's and 11's. For eating I prefer the 7's, 8's, and 9's.

If I have enough fish in the freezer then I'll be picky. If I'm running low the 7's and 8's are coming home with me.

12's and bigger usually go back in the water.

just a note to some of you.
many people complain of tons of dinks. did some of you ever think there are tons of dinks because theres not enough food supply for that many fish to grow large and if the perch population were lower the remaining fish would grow bigger?

food for thought next time you catch those borderline keepers...

imo

Nope, I'm not buying that one. If you went between Beacon Cove and Metro for example, the weeds were like a carpet. Plenty of space for little dinks to hide from predators. Eventually your theory will come to pass but I think it's still too early yet. This clean water due to the Zebra Mussels has allowed the weeds to grow higher and thicker than I can ever remember seeing. Now that the weeds are dying off (winter kill) the dinks are looking for somewhere to hide. Shallow water and cover. Walleye fishing this spring and early summer should be absolutely outstanding. Maybe if we get good ice on the lake this year the walleye will be just offshore waiting for us. Seems like a good topic for a new thread.
