I was interested in mounting a scope on my buckmark .22. A lot of people tell me to go with a red dot scope and it will do me wonders. I was wondering if this is a good idea since I will most likely be using it for hunting. Also, is it LEGAL to use a laser like red dot that you can actually see on your target? Any recommendations would be sweet, later fellas

Lasers are illegal for hunting. Red Dot scopes don't project a laser, the red dot just looks superimposed on the target. Red dots are nice, but don't buy a cheap one! Cheap models are not very clear, nore are they very bright. Most don't offer any kind of magnification either which may or may not be important to you. I would stick with the Burris SpeedDot or the Leupold/Gilmore red dots...Aimpoints are nice as well but usually cost more money. You can get the Burris Speed Dots for about $150.
If you want a tradtional style scope with magnification, you can't go wrong with a LER handgun scope from Burris, Leupold, or Bushnell Elite in standard 2x or 4x, all will do wonders for your handgun accuracy.

Someone will correct me if I am wrong but I believe it is illegal to use a sight that will cast or throw a light on a target animal unless you are blind and in the company of a person who can see. I also believe you could use such a device when you are hunting an animal such as a racoon at night when you could be allowed to shine a light on it.
A Red Dot sight as I am acustomed to hearing...refers to a sight that does not project a dot but will "superimpose" a red dot on the target while looking through the scope. This would be legal.

So I am guessing that even having one equipped with an actual laser would be illegal, while hunting. I am more interested in using THAT kind for target and plinking, probably the kind that sits either underneath the barrel or the one that replaces the hand grip. I wonder if it would be illegal if I were to take the battery out while using it in the field? I cant imagine it would do a lot of good on a bright sunny day anyhow. I wonder if having a red dot up top while having the laser beneath would be to much, weight wise. That way I could use the red dot underneath while palying, the scope up top for hunting. Well, I think I am taking a trip to gander mountain. Take care fellas! :D

I have a Buckmark .22. An eo-tech holo sight sits on top of it right now. Love it but its quite expensive. I had a Tasco pro point 2 and that did great also. I like a dot better for handguns personally. Lose light quick in a hg scope and little amounts of wrist movement make them black out. For a .22 I dont think you would have a problem with a BSA sight. Can find those for 25-30. Dunhams is always having sales on them.
Some red dots have adjustable dots. Can change size. Dots are measured in m.o.a. 4 moa is about 4" at 100yds. 1 moa is 1"
Lasers are in the rule book under night hunting. Fox,coyote, possum and racoons. Still kind of gray area.
