ya about 50 yds or so off shore. It is 4 ft wide in some places. It was pretty much froze yesterday but it still didnt look good. We crossed where it narrowed down to a couple ft. This was in maybe a foot of water.

i was out there tonight, caught a bunch of dinks and had one nice walleye go through the hole. got me ready for that deep water. we were the furthest ones out in about 5 foot, i dont see why everyone is staying in closer? there was a good 5 inches of ice out there, i think there might be too much ice too fast now though. whats your guys take on this?

But if you wanna fish in a shanty they work too.
See ya on the ice Larry. :D

A lot of people overlook shallow water but in tight can at times be by far the best fishing. Its important to stay relatively quiet and if without a shanty(hows that Scotty H) :p slush up the holes to hide movement.

Hey Steve and Scott, I am thinking about being out there Sunday. Will have radio and will holler to see if any one is out. Going to be too windy for me on Sat., so will spend it with the other half and do alittle x-mas shopping for the dads. If you guys get out Saturday report your findings so I might have a chance to catch a few on Sun. ;)

I'd prefer to see good solid ice form fast, versus getting a thick layer of snow on top, and create another nightmare like we had 2 years ago. But I honestly don't know how it would effect the fishing, and it might be to hard on our little naturals from the spring spawn.

thanks Snappy can't wait to hear.....
Took a ride out after work at about 11:30 am. Saw 2 vehicles but only 1 shanty. Seemed to be in pretty shallow too. I thought about giving it a try but my T/C .50 cal was at home calling me :D I decided to go that route. Good thing I did, last doe tag of the year has been filled. I will be getting geared up for bay fishing now and hope to have some good reports in the near future. Perch and Walleye. Good luck all.

Dont think I would go tomorrow either. Gusty S/W winds not good for early ice. Safety first!

We hit palmer rd. again today with about the same results as before.I did lose a good walleye(snapped my line)and saw about an 4-5 pd. eye swim through my hole.I did talk to someone who said some people did very well in the a.m. May try it again tomorrow.

Cleaned up the haul from yesterday Hoffie1 when I got home. Found them Perches just stuffed with minnows. One had a four inch minnow in HIM barely beginning to digest when you caught 'em. He must have been REALLY on the feed. Most minnows in them where 2"s. Beauty looking fish though, really clean. Sure was nice to get out, call you later today about going out this evening, (Mon.) :fish2: :fish: :fish2:
Hoffie1 and I called out on the GMRS's on channel 7/0 and 7/1 but no responses. We'll be on 7/0 out there (Palmer Rd. area) if anyone else is within earshot. Team up on nailing them Perch !

Got out Saturday morning on Palmer rd and wow was it windy!! Fishing was about the same alot of dinks!! My buddy and I packed it up and headed south. Ended up finding a spot with a lot less people and I ended up taking home around 20 and my buddy took around a 12. 1 9"er a few 8"s and the rest 6"ers or 7"ers were in my bucket. I give up on Palmer rd.
The river is looking good, my 3 day rule is here so ;), tonight we will give it a try!!

I was out Saturday evening and Sunday morning. Caught about 30+ between both days, mostly dinks, but did manage to catch 8 total 10+ inches which made for a nice fish fry on Sunday. Had a small pike show up in my hole on Saturday and give my bait a good 1 minute stare down before swimming off. Had another HUGE pike swim through on Sunday that I'm sure wouldn't have fit through the 6 inch hole.:)
Will be back out this coming Saturday before I have to fly down to Miami on Sunday.

I fished Palmer Rd. on Saturday. Between 2 of us we took home about 8 7-8 inchers, and two decent gills. We fished for about 2-3 hours, and without a shanty that wind made it dang cold. Caught probably 100 dinks, including some that were smaller than my pinky. The gills and really tiny perch were caught on spikes.

this morning was awesome for me out at palmer, caught 51 and kept 29 of them, pry 5 10+ and then the rest were 7-9", i was very suprised, fished north of all the other shanties, maybe that was why? i dont know why everyone is going south, it seems the best spots are straight out and north, does someone know something i dont?

I hear talk of this every year, have never ice fished the bay and would like to catch a few perch to fry up, can someone please tell me where exactly this place is located, I am dying to get out on the ice. Seeing I did not make it out once last season, let's just chalk it up to a series of tragic event's. Thank's all.

Here's how I get there:
Take M-13 north to Worth Road a few miles south of Standish. There is a blinking yellow light and a gas station, I think it's a Citgo, on the SE corner. Go East on Worth, obviously, and take that about a mile to State Rd. Go North on State Rd, and Palmer Rd is about 3-4 miles up the road. The good thing about hopping onto State Rd at Worth Rd. is that you can check Great Lakes Marina on the way up. You can also check the mouth of the Pine River, which is another mile or two north of Palmer Rd.

Fished Albright Shores morning then Palmer in the afternoon til 5:15 and seemed as tho the guys coming in (AM) did better. Moved alot from mid area to way out and Left with pretty slow action. There seem to be alot of small perch with occasional keeper. The larger ones seemed to hit the spoon over the minnow.
