Im working on converting a 6 inch mora auger screw to a gas powered auger. a fella were I work made one and said it worked great. unfortunatly it was stold from the back of his truck. I hope to have the coupler and stub shaft machined by the end of the week. I had someone tell me they have seen a conversion kit sold at meijers store before but Im not sure on that. Ill update this thread on whether it worked or not. the good part about this is if it doesnt work the units can be reassembled in a few minutes back to there normal state.

Sounds interesting. Keep us posted. What kinda engine are you using? I've more than once wondered if an old weed-wacker motor would turn enough hp to make this work?

a larger one i would imagine it would.... i think the gas auger motors are typically like 43cc for the 2HP, which I believe (off the top of my head) the larger weedwacker motors are also. Smaller ones may work, but you'd have to gear em real low to get the torque i bet.... so you wouldn't get as many rpms out of it, but hey.... if it works....

Just be careful. Gas auger bits are more beefy than hand augers. If that baby were to bind up it could come apart and be hazardous.

I have seen the conversion kit at meijers. They run about $21. They are set up to put on your cordless Drill. They say you can get 15 to 20 holes out a an 18v battery depending on the ice.

That would be great for the first set up - but what if you wanted to move?? :cwm27:

.......They say you can get 15 to 20 holes out a an 18v battery depending on the ice.It also depends on the drill and the condition of the battery. Craftsmans, Ryobi and other "Home Owner" grade drills wont "cut" it. (I made a pun! ) Dewalt and Milwaukee brand drills in the "Contractor/Commercial" grade models is what you need. The older the batterys are the shorter and weaker the recharges will be.........
