I have been bow hunting every weekend this month and plan on spending the whole last week hunting. We have a cottage up north and I convinced my wife to have Christmas up north this year so we will have a house full of people all week.

But onto the report. Not much activity where I have been. The stands I have been hunting haven't had even tracks since last week, but the snow has shed some light onto where they are. I walked by my one of my other stands and tracks were everywhere. So this coming weekend could be a good one.

What have you guys been seeing?

I have been seeing a lot of deer over the last week or so. Lots of does so I decided to put one in the freezer. Looking forward to the black powder season.:)

Oh I should add my hunting partner takes a different approach this time of year. He still hunts hill tops.

Last weekend he walked within 20 feet of a 6pt sunning himself. When the buck finally realized my buddy was so close it would have been too late, but he passed on it. The buck turned around and bound away. That must have been exciting.

Seeing deer.
Still primarily does, but lots of buck sign.
I was drawn on a large doe two Saturdays ago, but she kept roving behind bushes. I held my draw til my arm ached, but decided to pass untill I had a better shot.
After that she only showed me her butt.

I don't know the proper kill-shot placement through a doe's ****. Perhaps the more experienced archers can educate me.

Anyway I am going to try to sneak back out tomorrow and Friday afternoon, then Sunday morning.
The deer are there, it is up to me to harvest one :)

Amos, I believe the shot that you are referring to is called a "Texas heart shot". You executed it the right way by waiting for a better shot.

Last weekend I only saw 1 fawn while hunting. But, driving from Grand Rapids to Lansing Saturday @5pm I saw a lot of deer feeding in the fields.

went out last week for several days, still pretty warm, saw lots of sign but no sightings. my brother saw several does, no shot.
the weather is taking a turn for the better, colder temps, blue bird days. hopefully it holds until next week when i break out the smoke pole.

I went out yesterday evening and saw a total of 10 does. I never had a clear shot, but enjoyed seeing them anyway. It was great to be back in the woods again! Good luck everyone!

Best Regards,

nope, not many deer. I know that they are there but the warm weather keeps them active at night.
