UP Fishing Trip

I am considering a getaway ice-fishing trip to the UP this winter and am looking for advice on a location. I would be interested in renting a shanty potentially as well if that was a possibility. Any advice would be appreciated.

Depends what your fishin for.....If you like BIG northerns and walleye. Try Chassel Bay (houghton/hancock area) Find the local bait shop and ask them where the "Hog Trough" is. As an added bonus, for me this is handsdown also the most beautiful area in all of michigan.

If your after walleyes Bay Denocs is the place to go, you can rent shanties and hire a guide if thats what ya wanna do go to www.baysdenoc.com/fishing-reports.shtml (http://www.baysdenoc.com/fishing-reports.shtml) its the forum for that area and you can read all about the excellent fishing down there. No I'm not a hired helper for the guides down there but I also read all the posts on the ice conditions and such because I also have been there and fished it but untill you know the area your kinda stuck fishing the spots where everybody else fishes and it just isnt the same as getting off to a lil hot spot that nobody else is fishing because its better that you dont have all the noise going on right where your trying to fish (lol) Sorry about the long post I guess I need to learn short hand typing:D

Did some scouting around the munising area on the softwater...can least point you in the right direction if you're interested.

Only IF once In the UP....and I was actually deer hunting!!!!

Like Kandowca said if you want big pike or walleye, Pike Bay by the town of Chassell holds both early in the ice season, as winter wanes on I would move out into Portage lake more or even Torch. Superior Bait by Chassell is now closed you'll have to go into Houghton for bait. No shantie rentals here.


Walleyetracker gives good advice with Little Bay DeNoc. Big Walleye and Pike and Perch. Probably a more conviniant choice- lots of lodging accomadations,shanty rentals, and guides ( Marty Papke is a good one).
