According to Dave @ Young's Party Store in Alanson, a few guys are fishing Carp Lake (Paradise Lake). I went out to check on Maple Bay and all I got were were wet boots. Might have to wait a few more days/weeks depending on all this lake effect. Be safe and as always, tight lines.

Up here in Charlevoix, Emmett counties, we had many small and shallower lakes locked in. I had planned on fishing by this weekend. Unfortunately, Mother nature served up a heaping helping of frozen mashed potatoes last night. We've gotten over a foot in 24 hours. Not good for the lakes with 2 inches of ice. Probably a week setback for those areas. Luckily, the larger lakes shouldn't be affected as much as they haven't frozen yet.

Yesterday the lake I'm on in the NW lower was completely open water , early this morning it was completely frozen over.
I'm anxous to see how much snow we get on the newly formed ice and whether we'll have ice fishing this year. Two years ago we didn't.

Checked both. Burt has about an inch on Maple Bay....didn't get out much further than 10 yds before it took no more than two wacks with the spud. Heard Crooked was O.K. but at the launch, I found similar conditons to Maple Bay. I'm sticking on shore for a few more day. Next opportunity for me is Tuesday, so I'll let all those weekends test the ice for me. Tight Lines

There were only a couple of sleds and one guy pulled his permanent out on the ice with a quad. There was very little activity on the entire lake.

Didn't make it to Houghton Lake. Talk to Scotty Hover and he sad there was good ice where he was. I got my doe with my black power gun Sat around 5pm. Maybe next time. Looks like I can take my 4 wheeler up to Houghton if I go. Went by Sag. river south of 46 and seen people fishing the river to the Tipp. Ask one fisherman that was coming off the ice and he said there was 3" there. I don't like 3" of ice on the river. I like more then 5" on a river.
My pond that's just north of Harrison had 2" of ice in the deep end. Hope the cold weather keeps coming. Looks like we might have a long ice fishing season. Hope everyone stays safe out there.

Fife Lake is frozen, but I'm not sure how safe the ice is as yet. Most of the smaller lakes up here are now frozen over, and it's safe to fish in the shallower bay areas, but best to be careful nonetheless, and don't even think about any of the larger, deeper lakes yet. There's a few people out fishing on all of the smaller, or shallower lakes, but I'm not getting any reports of great fishing anywhere just yet. Snow due tomorrow, so be sure to check again before you head out anywhere.

This taken from TV7-4.com:
A northern Michigan fisherman will make a full recovery after being treated for hypothermia in Cheboygan county. James Temple was on a four wheeler when he fell through the ice Tuesday night just before six o'clock on Burt Lake. One of his fishing partners also fell through the ice, but friends were able to get him out. They weren't able to get Temple out so they called for help. Firefighters rescued the man after he'd been in the frigid water for 45 minutes.
I fished that evening on Maple Bay with between 3-4" of good clear ice. As I was packing up I heard some sirens in the distance. I think the area this guy went thru is more towards Indian River. If your heading out this weekend, proceed with caution. Don't assume anything and with all this new snow, make sure to take a throwable flotation device. Lots of insulation now covers the exsisting ice, so I doubt we're going to gain much before Saturday. Tight Lines

Saw this on the news last night Dave. By the spot they showed on the map it looked like they had taken off from the post office. They were way out past the pressure crack.

Check every lake you go to even though another lake has quads on it already. Lake missaukee has quads out there with about 6-8 inches of ice, but i went to another lake this moring (hicks) and with just 2 strikes from my spud it went right throw. There is only 2inches out there. Only caught 1 perch and 1 bluegill off misaukee if anyone wants to know.
Be safe, Redneckman

Just got back from visiting relatives in Boyne City. Checked the ramp on North lake street in front of Boyne River Bait. No ice in sight on 1-2-06. Open water as far as I could see. Noticed 1 person fishing the open water from shore in front of Boyne River.

Fished South side of HL this past Fri and Sat. Fished by Lymans on Friday for pike and 'eyes: lots of people out, had 8" of good ice. That was the good news......now the bad news: didn't see a single legal pike. Saw total of 1 walleye. Saturday, fished off the public access east of Lymans. Caught a bunch of tiny perch and 3 nice gills (8+"). Again, saw a bunch of little pike on tipups. Plenty of ice, snowmobiles and quads heading out 1 mile+ onto the lake. Since I was on foot, didn't try getting out that far.

Lake Leelanau - Still alot of open water around the Bingham Road Access, but people are fishing parts of the lake - not me yet, I don't feel the need to go swimming right now.
Cedar lake / Leelanau Co. - Just froze over last weekend, haven't seen anybody out there yet.
Long Lake - Fished it this morning - 5" to 6" of good ice where I was. Snowmobile and quad tracks on ice.
Big Glen - Still open water late last week.
Little Glen - Froze over and several people out fishing.

Is there any ice on Crystal Lake in Benzie or Belluah?
Just starting to skim as of last night. If it stays cold and calm, without lots of snow, it should start freezing quickly. NO ICE FISHING to be had on Crystal right now though.
