Anyone use these for hunting? Or target for that matter? I'm thinking about trying the Pro Diamond or T-Handle Thumb Push. It'd be nice to get the release off my wrist and leave the release hooked right on the bow so it's easier to grab my binoc's, grunt, or rattle bag. Any thoughts? Are they easy to get used too? I wouldn't use one for hunting until 2006. Here's a link...

Bob, I had been using one for 3d this summer and then I was shooting the carter 2 shot for hunting. I recently switched to the truball ultra extreme and have found I really like it. The release has no travel which I really like and I can set the tension pretty high on it, to prohibit bumping it. I am parnoid about dropping it so I never really leave it attached to the string, but I find that I can where normal gloves when hunting. I believe Kelly was shooting the truball pro diamond this summer and I think Byron was shooting the chappy boss. I really like teh truball stuff. If you shoot a d loop I would suggest you go with the talon head otherwise the caliper is good off the string.

Oh Yeah and this is post #1000!!!

Congrats on the grand James.

Yeah I'm still shooting the Pro Diamond. Love it. Indoor, 3d and hunt with it too. I leave mine attached to the string like your talking Bob. Never had an issue...but I stress about it falling off all the time. Like Grouse I crank it to be pretty heavy trigger to hunt.

I had the thumb push before the Pro Diamind and couldn't get consistent. Too much movement for me and not as adjustable...didn't fit my hand near as nice.

I do sometimes miss the added support drawing afforded by a wrist strap style but I don't think I'll go back.

Wow! Thanks for the great offer. If cool with you, can I take you up on that as soon as the snow melts? Since the store is so slow this time of the year and we have enough people to cover it, I'm currently on Mr. Mom/Super Dad duty through the end of Feb. ;) So I'm not going to have much time for screwing around with different set up's. But as soon as the snow melts, hopefully mid-March, I'll get the bow range all set up at the property and can play with it. If it's OK with you can I drop you a PM around the middle of March? Or if you still have it by then. If I like it and you don't use it, would you consider selling it? Thanks again.

I've been shooting the Tornado for a few years and like it a lot. I bought a Carter Chocolate Addiction that has a large thumb trigger. I never shot a release like that before, so I tried it in my basement... after a few shots, I was pulling back again and accidentally hit the trigger, which sent the large knurled thumb trigger into my chin like George Forman smacking a punching bag, which cut my chin and nearly knocked me out! Also... the arrow smacked the concrete wall and came flying back at me, luckily only landing at my feet! Holy cow! I bought that release for 3d and hunting, but after all that, I decided that I did'nt want to knock myself out when I was in a tree stand! ha ha I'll practice more before I do that! In the mean time my TruBall Tornado is just fine! :D

I too am looking to test one of these styles after the hunting season. My questions revolve around hunting with heavy gloves with one of these.

I use Tru-Ball Sabertooth for hunting, Zenith for spots and Carter Chocolate and scott long horn. I like the Tru-Ball cause use can adjust travel and tension. A very good release for tournys or hunting.:bash:

Hey Grouse, still have that release? If so, do you mind sending it to the store for me to try out?
I have a few other questions. I've searched all over and can't find any good info on thumb trigger form or instructions.
Do you start your draw with your thumb already down?
Do you use the back of your knuckles against your jaw as an anchor?
Do you push the trigger in or pull it back?
Do you move any other part of your hand when releasing, other than your thumb?
Is hitting or bumping the trigger prematurely really a problem when hunting? Meaning, once used to the release, is it pretty simple to use in the field?
How do you let the bow down with this release? Will the arrow want to come off?
Just wondering. I really am interested in trying one of these, but then you read about guys putting their fist into their soon to be fat lip.

Just missed by a day. Pretty sure I have it sold. If not, I will be happy to send it to you, just taking up space right now.
to answer your questions.
no, yes, no, yes, yes,yes :)

I keep my thumb away from the barrell until I have settled in at full draw. the back of my hand/fingers is positioned on my face, The thumb barrel is the only thing that is used to execute the release. Trigger is pulled to be released. Hunting wise, there are not really any more issues with bumping the trigger than any other.

its not really a tru back tension release although you can use back tension to execute the shot. The stories you hear are mostly related to true back tension or hinge releases. The trainsition will feel ackward at first, but stick it out for a while, I think you'll like 'em. I'll let you know if it comes back up for sale.

That's where I'm at now ... I got the Pro Diamond and found it very awkward at the start, but am getting used to it now (after about 100 shots) and really don't see myself going back.
