My wife said "in the event that we ice fish Ontario this year" which means she might be interested. Last year we traveled way too much and couldn't do Simcoe, but we went a few years in a row before that.

It is a great time at Simcoe but for your money LSc was very good to us last year and I'm undecided about paying the money to go to Simcoe and even though you can catch your limit pretty easy I caught bigger fuish on LSC.

First thing, if you want to have a good time on Lake Simcoe..
Perhaps it’s best to stop associating a good time with catching limits…
Lake Simcoe is always a great day on the ice regardless.
Catching limits is just a bonus?.
If you come home empty handed is that so bad? I mean, how was your accommodation?
The weather? Where you nice and worm….all contributing factors on if you had a good time here on lake Simcoe or not.
On the other hand….if your looking for limits,,,try first ice…..around January 15th…
Remember its all about having a good time, good company, good weather, good Canadian beer (had to say that)…lol….. And if you catch fish….great…if not that’s great to.

I'm with you Simcoe Ice, Ive been going up there for the last 15 years, and I LOVE IT....People are great, so is the Beer....You can pretty much walk out any where and catch Perch.....St.clair is not like that....Last year you had to struggle to catch 15 keepers, unless you where at the right place at the right time.....I fish as much, if not more than anyone out there and i know what is happening in and around the bays on the Mich. side of the lake. So, that being said, i've never been to Simcoe, and not caught my limit of Quality fish every time up there.
Yes, if you go up there and rent a hut, and sit in it all day without moving around and drilling holes, you will not do very well in less you get real lucky.
I've brought greenhorns up there with me, and did the Hut Rental thing, they sat in there all day, and expected to catch jumbos all day, I think those days are a thing of the past.....If there was ever such a thing.
Bring on the ice, and i will see you up ther Lake Simcoe Ice on Jan. 12,13,14, 15th for " First Ice", Smashed them last year up there at the same time...
And yes, it is worth it........Couple Hundred Bucks, Peanuts......
Cheers,
Mushy

The thing about St. Clair (I grew up near Metro Beach) is the ice is really not 100% reliable all season long. And even on days you think it is fine, with 16" of thick ice you can get a outward wind and crack off the whole shelf. Maybe this year will be different... as it seems to be colder than normal.
