Is there a way to keep 1lb. propane bottles from freezing? I have have a small radiant heater that screws on the top and the tanks freeze up when they get about half empty. I just picked up a 1 man fish trap and wonder if there may be a better heat source. A buddy heater and 20lb is great for the 4 man but would be too much for the fish trap. Thanks for any ideas.

Your heater is drawing LP to quickly, which is causing freeze up. You need a bigger than 1 lb tank for that heater to work properly.

How well would a liquid fuel double mantle coleman lantern heat a small fish trap. Or what is the best heater to use with the 1lb propane tanks? I want to keep this set up as light as possible. The problem is when I have my bigger shanty set up I dont move as much as I should.

Lantern would work but they are hot to move, mantels break and the light cuts down what you can see in the water. I just refill my 1 lb-ers and bring a few with me. If they are 1/2 full when I get home I top them off. If you have a heater that doesn't chill the tank you 'll probably not get enough heat . An easy thing to do is have a few extras and re-use the tank when heated or warm. if it leaks tap on the top with pliers or some object. it has a rubber/ steal balbearing seal with . Tapping it will get it to seal.

We used to use a double-mantle Coleman lantern to heat a small trailer during deer season. It kept it warm enough to sleep, considering we were wearing long johns and using sleeping bags. Sure puts out a lot of light all night though.

Make sure you're getting enough fresh air in. Dont want to loose someone to CO poisoning, or lack of oxygen....
