I have a question, what vices are popular now... I use an old Thomson Ultra...
But am considering a new vice. Any and all constructive input would be greatly appriciated...

Hi Bob,Im new to fly tying, since last November. I bought a tying kit from Cabellas.,but have spent hundreds on other
tools et, the kit had a cheap vise, so after
taking a flytying class in January at Macgregors in Ann Arbor, I bought a rotary
Renzetti Travel vise, basic cost $140., then
added a pedestal stand for another $40. I just love this vise. Another good one is
Dyna-King. Good luck...Dr. JIM

I definitely don't recommend buying one of those kits as the vices in them are not typically high quality.

I didn't know fly tying was a vice! Maybe I should look into it. Ha

Been tying on a Regal for several years now and no complaints. They're ultra fast and simple for hook securement. I've read of some having problems with chips in the jaws but no problems with mine. I'm also familiar with the Renzetti Traveler mentioned above. Another very nice vice and I think the two are in the same $$ range.

Renzetti's? Man you guys are hard core!
I have been using a Thompson "Pro A" for a couple of years now and have nothing but good things to say about that model. I have tied flies (Sizes 18 to 2) with no problems what so ever! I highly recocmend this vise and It retails for around $50!!!!
Good luck with whatever you end up buying :)
