Here's the situation: I know where there is a huge brown(20+ incher!!!!!). I have seen him and so has a one of my friends for a total of three times in the last week. Here's the deal he comes up only once to take caddis, three times at the most and won't take nymphs or streamers.
When he rises do you think he sees me and then shuts down or do the big ones like that only feed once and a while while there is a good hatch going on? Or should I take a different approach? I have tried streamer but I am open to any ideas that would lead to the capture and release of this trophy!(As long as it is on tha fly!!)

Weezer, you may catch him sneaking a bug once in a while but my guess is that he didn't get that big taking chances for his dinner. A fish that size I would guess is in a good hole in 3-5' of water. An early morning sneak-up to see if he's active may be worth a try. If he's not rising, then try a naturally presented pheasan tail or gold ribbed hare's ear by him. But probably the best chance is to had swinging streamers in the best looking feeding water that's nearby AT or AFTER dark. Ooh, I love a problem like that.

This fish is holding in a deeper hole than 5'. It is more like 8' I think and it is kinda slow water that swirls.
I'm going to try him tommarow morning and if he doesn't take anything I'll be hitting that stretch after dark sometime next week.
After talking to some "experts " they say to fish him after dark with the big streamers. or waiting and fishing him with deer hair mice.

When nobody is around take a 6 inch piece of "ground hackle" place on a #8 hook use a 16 foot cane pole with No weight and 2 pound line sneeak up like that fish is a bedded deer, stay about 5 feet from the edge and you will be on your way to the taxidermist in no time.

Yes, Dutchman. Just let the "hackle" dead drift through the hole like it was floating, especially after a big thunderstorm.

one of the major guides in this area{he owns thetroutsman on us 31}does very well fishing these large browns by being agressive. He believes there very territorial and agressive. You would be shocked by the size of streamer he uses!you could knock the fish out with the suckers.Must work though, his clients keep coming back.

Primo, I have never had the pleasure of meeting the "Troutsman" owner(Kelly Gallop) but I have read many articles on this guy and his techniques! I have been testing them out a lot this year and they are right on the money!!!! I haven't caught my trophy yet but I still haven't hit my "Trophy" trout waters yet. I will be on the Ausable Tuesday afternoon and I'll probably stay long into the night ripping hug e streamers.
A little about the garden hackle... I have already cught my trophy on garden hackle(18" Brookie). When I catch a trout on fly it means 10 times more to me than catching it with bait or spinners. If I catch him on one of my flies it means 20 times more! It's a feeling too hard to explain with words, when I catch my trophy I'll be sure to get a picture and I'll let my expression do the explaining.
