I was wondering if anyone here fishes for walleye on Diamond Lake in Cass County? If so, shoot me a pm so we can hook up this winter and try to target some eyes out there. I guess the DNR has stocked the lakes with around 500,000 since 1990, so there should be a nice walleye fishery going there. I have never fished for walleye out there and don't have a clue where to find them, but would love to give it a shot this winter. I did however catch a 7 1/2 lb. eye 3 years ago on a tip-up out there. I about had a heart attack when I pulled her out of the hole.

For those experienced walleye fisherman, what depth do you catch most of your eyes through the ice? The lake I am speaking of gets to around 60 ft. in some places and I was wondering if the walleye would even be at that depth. There is a couple acre island in the middle of the lake and I was thking about starting somewhere along the steep drop from the island. As far as cover I don't really know much about the lake, so I have a lot of learning to do. I know there is a huge weedline, but I am not sure where the edge of it is. I was thinking if I could find the edge of the weedline that I would be able to find some schools of eyes. Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Ryan

If you were going to try ice fishing this lake for Walleye, where would you start? I am clueless when it comes to fishing for them.

Thanks,
Ryan

In general you can catch fish in the winter in the same place that you can catch them in the summer. If you dont know that then that doesnt help either.
Depends on time of the winter but for starters the two places to start:
the steepest drops and maybe a couple of places where the shoreline juts out. For instance I think there was something like that on north shore. A point is a point even if its subtle.
Any place you have a feeder creek could be could if oxygen levels get lower towards the end of the year.
