Alright, I need to stock up on dog supplies for the new pup this spring. Give me your lists of "have to have" items. For the field or at home...
(lets keep it in reason too, I know a new truck and shotgun are "essentials", but I'm on a budget here)

Sounds like fun! Here's a start:
A set of black rubber food and water bowls from Tractor Supply, indestructable...
An indoor kennel with mat for just inside the back door, pup's "den" inside...
A travel crate for joy riding whenever possible, get used to traveling early...
Grooming brush/comb...get used to being groomed/handled early..
A solid comfortable puppy collar...get used to something around his neck...
A handful of chewy toys...just for fun....Scott

They will withstand pickups, horses and calves, but hot rod gsp's are a different story:lol:

The two most important things check cords and whistle. Get more than one keep one in truck and one in house. You didn't say what kind of dog but if pointing breed may want to try pick up some bird launchers. Start looking now after Christmas some guys will get auto and sell their manuals. Good luck puppy are a hand full!

upland, water, versatile, or hound?

Crate for birds. quail and pheasant/chukar/duck size. just the later for water dogs

Nylabones hold up pretty well.

Wing on a string. good exercise and fun for any breed.

A new game keepers bag.

Tooth brush. The earlier you start fussing with them the better.

Natures miracle pet odor cleaner/remover. Buy quite a bit.

Those rubber bowls are great. I've got a few around the farm here. The first one I bought was for my goose. It works pretty well in the cold weather. The ice just flips right out. :)

Brad,

No one Book works for every Trainer. Buy several and use the parts from each that you like the best. Gun Dog by Richard Wooters, Troubles with Bird Dogs by George Bird Evans, Wing and Shot by Robert G. Wehle, Best way to Train your Gun Dog: The Delmar Smith Method by Bill Tarrant****.

Other things for your list: an E-Collar (for later training), Indoor Crate and Air Kennel for the vehicle and traveling, a tube of EMT Gel and a first aid kit, Collar Bell or Beeper (personal choice). Good Luck. FRANK.

I've got Wolter's Gun Dog and have been through it once already. Taking parts from different books makes sense. I'll check a few of those other ones out.

I still think for setters the free book you can download from ATS Sonic web site is hard to beat.
