Could you use topsoil or potting soil to cover traps if you are unable to sift native dirt or find ant hill duff?

Swamp Ghost,
I recently read an article about a very successful trapper of fox and coyote that traps 100's of fox and coyote out east each year. He is in the nursery business and all he uses is potting soil to bed his traps. He claims that the fox and coyote don't know the different, because they run across a lot of different dirt all the time.
So I guess if the potting soil is clean and dry that it should work just fine as your trap covering material. Let us know how it works!
