Ok I have had a little time to work on figuring out how to tie up those pesky dry flies that have given me so much trouble.
Anyway all of the sudden I am turning out some quality adams!!!
Here's a question for anyone that has some experience with dry flies.
Which end of the hackle do you tie in? Tip or butt section of the hackle?
On all of my steelhead flies I alway tie in at the Tip and I think that was my problem!
What about Parachutes? Tip or Butt? and where should I tie in at? Mid post or near the hook?
I hope these questions make sense! I have had a LOOOOOOOOOng day (And a couple of cocktails as well.)

Rick:

I haven't tied many steelhead flies but I have read about tying in the tips of the hackle on those type of fly as well as when tying a collar type hackle for wet flies. On the dry flies that I tie I always tie in my hackle at the butt end. I also tie in my parachute hackle at the butt end. I tie in a couple of hackle feathers just a bit towards the eye end of the hook from the mid-point of the hook shank.I am not real sure if it makes much difference tying in the butt or tip end but I believe it has something to do with how the fibers lie after being wrapped around the hook. Hope this helps.
