We have been practicing QDM for about 5 years now and have finally really reaped the benefits. All of us saw lots of deer. I saw 6 bucks opening day. shot and missed one, but had the opportunity to take another later in the day.

All bucks were shot after 11:00am. We do not use feed, except for a couple blinds on the high ground. The 6 point or better rule applies. Here are our results, including a picture of the harvest and my son and I.

3 - 8 pointers, 1-2.5 year old and 2-3.5 year olds, weights were 140, 145 & 163
2 - 7 pointers, Not aged yet, 120 lbs each.
1 - 4 pointer, shot because of a shot up front leg.

5 does for balance.

1300 lbs of venison hung the first week.

We do this on 240 acres, but have some real good cooperation from a lot of our neighbors. However, they do use bait, which is really fine with us. They feed 'em, we eat 'em.;)

Not a single deer was shot on high ground. All were taken out of the swamp.

Looks like a very successful year for your group. I wish I had 240 acres to manage.

They just dont seem to be anywhere but private land. That QDM stuff is great for private land but it didnt improve Tuttle marsh at all...........Must be all that feed the neighbors had! makes for some good eating.

While I didn't get out of the woods too much, I did notice that not much was going on. My cousin came up on Friday nite and said the roads were packed though. I think lots of guys had to wait until the weekend. Too bad.

One other observation about this harvest is that not one of these deer were taken on high ground. All were taken out of the swamp. We have a creek that flows through our property and there is cedar and balsam swamp on either side of it. I think because of the weather the deer hunkered down in the low areas to get out of the wind and rain. They just milled around in the soft moss of the cedars. That was good for us since all of us hunt in the swamp during gun season.
