No.... I'm not going to be hunting naked, I'm going to be wearing natural fibers like cotton and wool along with down and leather. My only concession to modern materials will be a layer of polypropolene next to my skin.

interesting idea. But skip the cotton. If it gets wet cold and heavy. The poly and wool combo is my favorite for lightweight warmth.
Are you just stump sitting too.
Have fun this season.

I know that cotton is worthless when wet from either rain or sweat but I really like a cotton hooded sweatshirt for warmth.

I wear poly long johns and have switched to hunting 90% of the time in a wool camo suit. I just love the thing. It's warm and very quiet. The only time you will get me out of it is if it's raining and windy.

I'd love to be able to afford a Woolrich camo wool system, Someday.

Don't shed that wool just because it gets windy. Get yourself a cheap wind breaker; one of those nylon lightweight pull-over's (cost is very little). Wear that just under your wool coat and you have a windproof setup. I even use it during October when the wind blows strong. (I wear one I used to wear while bike riding and have had this thing for years and years.)
As long as you aren't walking a great distance it works great. If you have to walk, leave the nylon thing off until you get to your stand and then put it on. Once you try it, you'll laugh at paying such a high price for gore-tex windproof stuff.

What brand and where did you get them from? I was just talking about that the other day. I love wool for hunting. A buddy gave me a pair of wool bibs a few years ago and I just fell in love with them. I really like them for stalking. They don't make that scratchy, well.... unatural sound I guess would be the best way to describe it, when a tree rubs up against it or smacks it. Good stuff.

oh, this is right up my alley.. i've spent the last 2 years coming up with my optimum gear.
i've switched almost entirely to wool, and plastic. military surplus polypro, heavyweight, purchased 3 sets on ebay for about $18 a set (top and bottom included.) expect to pay about 20-25 a piece at a military surplus store, cheaper at this website:
www.armygear.net
that's a great website. bought my polypro sock liners there, cheap. also, bought my wool socks there, pretty cheap as well.
birch run outlet - has a woolrich outlet. bought a heavy weight wool shirt, loden green, for $30. bought wool pants (black) for around $50. some military surplus pants can be had cheaper - even check cabelas - some going for $10-$35, new. anyway, polypro and wool shirt, woolrich pants - that keeps me good for anything in the 45-55 degree range. silent, warm - i love it!
when it dips below 40, i break out the weatherby wool. excellent stuff. double re-enforced articulated elbows, knees. no velcro - all large buttons. some wind-breaking material built in. lined as well. i put mine through the works, and it holds up great. polypro and weatherby for most cold weather. if its windy, i add the wool shirt, and maybe a light wind breaker underneath - micro-weave. THAT setup - has kept me warm in a 10 degree blizzard, waiting out a coyote, for hours. they even have a new winter camo pattern out. i have the standard pattern, which works well anytime. i bought my parka and pants, with suspenders, on sale after season, at schubpach's in jackson, for $284 out the door. best money i've spent in some time.
wool mittens, that fold back for fingers. military surplus wool hat.
wool, wool, wool!!!!!
let me tell you - last year, i wore my brother's columbia gallitan range wool jacket, and a wool shirt, in POURING rain, to stalk corn, for 3-4 hours. came back in, and jacket was wet, while the outer part of the wool shirt had just started to get damp. i was toasty warm.
wool doesn't retain scent, airs out nicely, keeps you dry in rain, is silent, keeps you warm, its everything!!! the only drawback is that it can get a little heavy. its worth it. even though its heavier, its not bulky - you'll be amazed at how free to move you feel..
did i mention that i love wearing wool??
