Ok, You are on the river and there is no hatch going on. You forgot the streamers and nymphs however you have a fully stocked box of dry flies. What do you put on? (Let's say it's June)

I usually will put on an Elk Hair caddis when this happens.

I will always go with a streamer in this case. Something like a muddler, Mickey Finn, Dark Spruce, etc. Whooly Bugger after a big rain is good to.

If the fish are feeding on the surface, but I can't seem to figure out or match the hatch I will always put a small blue olive, probably with a parachute on.

When in doubt a big Black Ant or an all black Elk Hair Caddis, learned it from an old timer when I lived in Connecticut and it works on Smallmouth also.

Lets see, its June but no hatch going on and all I have is a box of dries. What I would do is tie on a Brown Drake(early June)add 24 inches of 4x to the bend of the hook then take another Brown Drake dry and cut the hackle and wing down to make a nymph tie it on the dropper and start fishing. The dry acts as a strike indicator. I have been using this set up for a few years now and I've found that most of my fish come on the dropper(about a 5-1 ratio)

Ron that is a creative reponse! I have used this method a few times in the summer. I like to use a hopper and a pheasant tail. I was reading "Trout " magazine and a author talked about tying the nymph ahead of the dry .
It seems like an off the wall idea but I can't wait to try it.

Well one of my go to patterns is this month's fly of the month the Bettie McNault. I went to it today and it produced two fish. That's what I'm talking about!
