View Full Version : Bow stored in cold weather?

I'm taking my bow to deer camp this weekend to get 3 days of bow hunting in before rifle opener. Is there any concerns having a bow sit in a trailer over night if it isn't heated? I didn't know if cold weather was bad or not. I know leaving it in a 100+ degree car in the summer can be a bad idea but just wanted to make sure about cold.

Since the bow can't tell if you've left it out in the cold or are using it out in the cold, I don't think it matters. Does that make sense? It's cold in the storage place and it's cold in the blind--either way, it's cold.

Leaving it in an area where the temperature fluctuate between freezing and warm temp for long periods of time (months) can't be good for it.

i think it should be fine, its not going to get ant colder than it would if you were on stand with it for several hours in the winter.

I think heat is more important as it causes warping and stretching of components.

I have always stored mine in an outbuilding with no heat and have seen no ill effects.

Just like a rifle it is better to leave it cold than bring it in to a warm area then back out in the cold in the morning. You may end up w/ condensation then a freeze up problem. One thing you need to make sure of is what type, if any, lube you may have on moving parts. If you haven't hunted in cold weather before w/ a bow make sure you loosen up a bit every now and then, as you may find your muscles too tight to pull it back when the shot presents itself. In fact a lot of guys back off the draw weight about 10#'s in cold weather.

hmm i wouldnt really know as my bow stays in my vehicle from oct 1st till the nite of nov 14th, and then back in the vehicle from dec 1st to jan 1st but i would agree heat will do more damage than the cold, only thing the cold will do is make things squeek for lack of lubrication
