Water temps in the bay are still in the 50 degree range, so it hasn't been a real numbers game out there just yet. Most guys are averaging 2 to 4 fish a trip. On the plus side, the average size of fish seems to be better than normal. Even though most guys are only getting a few fish a trip, usually at least one of them is in the 7 to 9 pound range. We've heard of several fish over 30 inches in the last week and I had a 33 incher brought into the shop Saturday morning that had to be over 13 pounds. Also heard about a 34 incher that went 13 pounds, 10 ounces!

Guys are fishing everyway you can imagine right now - trolling, drifting, jigging, and casting. They are fishing both day and night, with the night bite being a little bit better for numbers of fish. I haven't done much fishing after dark yet. Mostly I've been Lindy rigging large redtail chubs along the steep breaklines in 20 to 35 feet of water. The 29, 27, and 25 inch fish below were all taken on chubs this past week. As the water cools, it should only get better.

Good luck out there.

Winds finally mellowed enough to get out for a while this evening. Got three - one undersized, one 18 incher, and this fat 27 incher. Had to use the self timer on the camera, so excuse the bad framing, but all the important stuff is there - nice sunset, heavy fish, and happy fisherman!

Well then, here's another. Got this one tonight while fishing with my dad. This one went 29 inches, taken on a redtail. We also got 2 small pike on chubs. I haven't been setting the world on fire by any means, but one or two a trip like this makes it well worthwhile. Fishing seemed to pick up after the big blow on Wednesday. Had several good reports of 10 to 20 fish catches Friday and today from guys casting and trolling crankbaits after dark. Of course there are still some guys that couldn't catch a fish to save their souls, but that's fishing I guess. I refuse to use the dredded "That's why it's called fishing, not catching" phrase, (ah crap, I just did!)

It's late.

See ya on the water.
