I asked this question in the middle of another thread and got no response... Does anyone have an opinion of the Orvis type loop fly line and leader system? I am thinking of trying it this year, but do not know anyone who uses them. I am kind of far away from an Orvis shop and would be interested in any comments.

Thanks!!

I guess I'm not totally familiar with the Orvis loop connection. Doesn't Orvis use a kevlar sleeve/loop?
Most of the shops that I stop at recomend a mono loop for the leader connection. I use this method on my trout/panfish rig and it works really well, and it's inexpensive!

I got a loop for the end of my fly line that is mono, I have not seen any leader systems that have loops, other than Orvis. Orvis has this coollooking leader system that allows you the ability to "connect" all sorts of parts together with loops (leader butt, sinking heads, etc)they claim " the only knot you tie is the fly to tippet" I think I will get one... I will let you know what I experience..

I have used the Orvis loop to loop system for a couple of years and it works great. This will eliminate the need for tying a lot of knots. The only knot you tie is to attach your fly to the tippet.

I have also used the orvis loop system for years now and love it. The parts are expensive, but the way I look at it, my limited time out fishing is worth it. You are much more likely to change leaders, etc, to match conditions/fly if it doesn't involve tying another know.

I tried something recently on a trip to the keys that I'm going to use on the rivers this year. In fishing the flats I like to do two things, fish for toothy critters-shark and 'cuda, and fish for others like bonefish. The toothy ones require a wire leader and that only spooks the wary ones. What I did was use a nail know to secure a butt section of leader to the flyline, then a loop in it. I then carried 2 leaders with me that had loops on both of them. I got to where I could change leaders in about a minute and a half.

A picture would be worth a thousand words on this one. I think I know what you are saying but can you describe how you made your loop again?

Just put a Perfection loop in the end of the leader butt section that is nail knotted to the flyline. (Make sure that this is heavier than any of the leader you're going to use to avoid "hinging") Then put more perfection loops on the end of your leader of choice. -OR- add a loop to the tippet and just change that as long as your leader of choice is of proper selection.

Hope this makes sense. I don't have a scanner to send a picture or drawing, but it works for me.
