Taging a deer

I helped my neighbor drag, gut, and tag a button buck he shot (his first deer ever).

We had no problem with the date or the antler points. What about the male or female?

The law and the tag state antlered or antlerless deer, but the place to punch the tag has male and female.



We tagged it as a female (antlerless) deer. Should we have tagged it male and not punched any antler points?

They don't have male/female or buck/doe licenses. They have antlerless and antlered deer. Hunters call them doe permits. If it was a male deer it should be tagged as a male deer. There are antlered female deer as there are antlerless male deer. Antlers don't make the sex of the deer.
