Hello all
I a havent been on this page for a while.
But I will be coming home to Manton the end of Jan from being over seas
my wife and I will be doing some Smelt fishing up in Green Lake.
my old stomping grounds.
I was just wondering and has any one one used live smelt on a tip up
at night with any luck.
I have fished for smelt there alot but never tried tip-ups there
How deep should I fish the tip-up or should I even try are the trout active at night
Thank you for any help
Tom

Last year I hit up green lake twice, With only 30 smelt each night. It wasnt very hot action even though it was packed. I then tryed crystal lake, and had way better sucess. Me and my cousin alomst filled a 5 gallon bucket:dizzy: Just something you might want to try. Thanks and goodluck

You should see shantys set up in the general area you want to fish. Generally anywhere from 15 to 40 foot deep should hold smelt in my experience. I have an underwater blacklight that I submerse about 15 feet down, I then use glow in the dark jigs tipped with a wax worm or mousie. It's done the trick for me.

GOOD LUCK
