Hey guys, I am headed up to the Huron now to pull out an outboard I found on the river bottom. I am not sure what kind of shape it's in but but has anyone ever had any luck getting something like that to work? It'd make a good winter project to take apart and try and get going. I just made a giant gaff out of black pipe and a bike hook so hopefully that will reach it. Drop a line if you think getting it to work is a possibility, thanks!

Yeah, I am one of the few Buckeyes in A2, it's tough, but someone's gotta do it.
Talk about living on the edge. LOL

as long as it's not rusted up, or siezed up the motor should be alright. Now any of the electronics on it would be toasted. Plus the carb could use an overhaul. And the lower unit should be drained of lube and inspected for any water. If there is water in the lower unit, it needs to be resealed. Could be a very costly winter project. Personally, I'd salvage parts off it and sell the parts on Ebay... Should have a nice start to buy a new motor that hasn't been in 'the drink'.....

Grew up in Cleveland so I kinda have Ohio roots. I do admit the State of Michigan is great for the outdoors, more variety than Ohio. I also admit that Ohio is boring except for Cleveland because Cleveland rocks! Have a Buckeye flag on my house every Saturday as well as 3 other neighbors, we have our own little cluster in our sub. Buckeye sticker on the truck too, just don't break off my antenna or anything please!
Yeah, so I looked at the data plate on the engine I pulled out of the river, it's a Clinton Engine, Model K750 3110 E, Type XTV52259, Serial 1062131. It didn't have any zebra mussels on it but there is some corrosion and rust so I have no idea how long it has been there. Power washed the muck off of it at the car wash. I also sprayed some nut loosener on it and left it in the garage so once I have a chance I will take it apart and see what I have. The only part that seems to be missing is the engine cover on top.

Sounds like a challenge! I'll get a pic of it before I do anything to it, it's gonna be some work.

Yeah, I am not planning on really putting any money into it, just get it running, I don't even have a boat :) . My uncle has some spare carbs I can borrow. I think it would be fun to tinker with if work is slow.
Good luck! keep us up to date!

The rule of thumb for submerged outboards is to get them out,dry out the electronics, clean out the fuel system, then get them running ASAP before corrosion sets in,,run them good and long to make sure they are dried out and lubed up.
If its been under for a while you probably need to tear her down,,but the fact that it's an old Clinton, well it being on the bottom of the drink might not have been an accident! lol!
