Used to hunt the Metamora state park for deer, never really seen that many squirrels, but I wasn't really hunting in the big woods. I don't know where you are, but if your closer to Holly recreation area. Off Grange hall rd. Just east of heron lake. I squirrel hunt there every year, and I always do great, both sides of the road can be good, but the South side is excellent. Also you won't run into as many bird hunters and bowhunters in Holly. Sorry I couldn't help more but good luck.

I'd let the bowhunters get there morning hunt in if I were you............unless you don't mind pissing people off, then get there at sun up....with squirrels though I don't think it really makes a difference, and if you go in around 10'ish, you should have most that land to yourself.......good luck!! FYI, Bald Mountain has lots of squirrels, if you are coming out this way, maybe you should give that a try too?

i hunt these areas all the time. i live in oxford.

forget bald mountain, theres squirrel there but too many hunters.
metamora /hadley is good for squirrel.
ok here goes , giving away my best squirrel grounds..... take oakwood road east from ortonville,,, or west from m24 north of oxford. you'll see a green house on the south side of the road by honert road. go north for a couple miles and you'll find foxlake road. turn right and go 1/2 mile or so to the first corner. you'll see a trail with a guard rail. park by the guard rail and walk the trail. you can go all the way back to round lake , about a mile id guess.
ok thats all im given,,, i won't tell you my hot spots. but if you see a funky red jeep with a half top,,, stop and chat,,, i might give you a bit more help.

timing with squirrels is just as important as with deer. and how about the squirrel hunters being interfered with by deer hunters? are they second class citizens? to many squirrel are far more interesting to hunt then deer. i hunt both and try to respect other hunters, but those woods belong to anyone that wants to use them.I'd let the bowhunters get there morning hunt in if I were you............unless you don't mind pissing people off, then get there at sun up....with squirrels though I don't think it really makes a difference, and if you go in around 10'ish, you should have most that land to yourself.......good luck!! FYI, Bald Mountain has lots of squirrels, if you are coming out this way, maybe you should give that a try too?
