Any recommendations for a nice panfish spinning reel? I love my Thorne Bros perch rod and have been using a Pinnacle Deadbolt reel....It's time for a new reel. I fish up to 45 feet deep and want a smooth drag in case I hook into a "bonus" fish.
Any suggestions?

The ticas are great, I have two, the sb 500 and the ls (I think) 500.
They might be a little marginal on spool capacity for 45 plus fow and a "bonus" fish, however.

I'll have to check the Tica out. My friend bought a larger one for salt water last Spring and loves it...

Mitchell Avocet's, the 310X series, and my vote is for the UL version of any of the Center drag Abu Garcia Cardinal reels. Very smooth, alot of bearings, don't freeze, great drag system, and all of mine have been around 29.99 to 39.99. Most of them are around 6 ounces. Can't remember off hand, but I think my heaviest reel is either the Avocet or the Cardinal 100 at 6.3 ounces. I like em light.;) No problem putting plenty of 2-4 pound test line on any of these.:)

Hands down the best ultra light reel is the Mitchell 310X Gold. It's got 10 BB which is the most of any ultra light reel and I've taken big steelie's,walleye, bass, pike,Trout all on it.

If i am looking for a reel, it will always be a Shimano. They are smooth and light weight and very durable. I have found that the Tica is a very nice reel too. It is fairly inexpensive as well. It's really hard to beat a Sahara 750 though. They are $59.99 and really ment for the everyday angler. The AX500 series is also a nice way to go. They are around 25 bucks. I personally prefer the AX and the Stradic 1000 myself. Stradic runs up in price quite a bit, jumping to $119.99, but they make for a great light weight durable reel. Also in the summer time they make for great trout reel!!

A couple years ago, I "guided" a gift buying trip for my Dad with my Mom. Dad wanted a u/l rig for gill fishing (soft water) so for the reel we went with a Shimano Sedona 500 for about $40 or so at GM. He loves the reel, but hasn't used it on the ice. (Although sizewise, it would be a great match.)
On the flipside, I have a Sedona 1000 that is a real POS! Very uncharacteristic for a Shimano reel, so maybe it's just a lemon. However, $40 for a Shimano with my favorite feature, the "Super Stopper II" anti-reverse is a pretty good price. I can check the other specs if you're interested.
PS: It's getting pretty damn cold around the Reeds Lake area!!!!! :D :woohoo1:
