I am in the market for a new 5wt fly line this year. In the past I have preferred a weight forward type line because I am not the greatest with the rod. Any recommendations on a brand? The one that I have is an el-cheapo and I'm looking to upgrade a bit from it.

I like some of the Orvis lines that are out, especially their double tapers.

I like the Scientific Anglers lines.

washeta, which of the Scientific Anglers lines do you recommend. I'm looking for a 5wt floating line.

I'll have to check that one out. I think I have their catalogue somewhere around here.

I am using a line from Cabelas, "Prestige" I think is the name of it. It is very bright yellow/green, and I am not real impressed with it.. Seems to tangle easy, not very limp, etc.. I have used SA floating lines in the past and am thinking about going with the and Orvis line and braided leader system. I am curious if any of you use that type of system. Or if there are any other options if you want to use a "loop" system.

There are two very hot lines out right now, Orvis Wonderline and any S.A. line with A.S.T. technology. These lines are slicker than snail snot. I warm-water fish for 'gills and bass in some pretty murky and scummy ponds and don't even have to clean my A.S.T. Bass taper line. I find the slick surface also shoots the line much farther than any I've tried. Let us know what types of fishing you intend to do and we can better suggest a weight forward or double taper.
Hope this helps,

Well I bought the SA formula 3 or something like that. Went with the weight forward... should help with my below average fly casting form. Anyway from the comments I've heard it should be a good line. I've already put the attachment on it to accept the Orvis braided leader system which I won't fish without.
