Do you have to purchase a fur license or is a small game sufficient? My buddy has no interest in keeping the fur, he just want to rid his property of this chicken killing fox. He's lost 7 of his egg laying chickens so far and is tired of it.

Fur Harvester License
All persons who hunt and trap furbearing animals, including those who trap or hunt on their own enclosed farmland or private property, must have a valid fur harvester license. This license allows you to hunt fox, bobcat, coyote or raccoon, and trap badger, bobcat, fisher, marten, fox, coyote, weasel, mink, raccoon, muskrat, beaver, otter, skunk or opossum.

I loved this part of the law:

Residents of Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and the province of Ontario, Canada, cannot purchase a Michigan nonresident fur harvester license because those states and that province prohibit Michigan residents from purchasing an equivalent license.

Is there nothing on the books that protects livestock/farm animals from this type of thing, therefore negating the need for the license?

You might want to contact a local trapper to rid that problem.he'd do it for the hide. Rancid

Rare they are, but a good reliable trapper is a friend to keep. They can eliminate skunks, coons, and other undesirables.

Boehr. Didn't there used to be a law that if you had domestic animals and a fox, coon, or other animal was doing damage or about to do damage, that you had the legal right to kill it? If there was a law, and I believe there was, when did this get taken off the books?

Thanking you in advance.

Dennis

Just curious but did he see the fox with a chicken, if its being done at night you will find that it could very easy be a possum or coon, I had 3 friends over the year's that thought it was fox and when they caught them they were possums 2 times and the 3 rd was a coon

For coyote and coon, yes. I don't recall there ever being a law for fox without a license or permit to do so.

Thanks Boehr for the clarification on that. Evidently I was mistaken.

Thanks for you quick response. Don't seem wright that you can't shoot a fox that is killing your chickens without a license and don't need one to shoot a coyote but that is why it's so important to have you on this site. THANKS AGAIN
