Anyone know if university property is considered public or private when it comes to antlerless tags? we have both, but aren't sure what to use.

Its University property that's open to hunting. Didn't know if it was like conservancy property which is considered private or like other state land that's considered public.

anyone know?

Thanks,
Chris

Good Question, when I used to fish on the campus of MSU, they would run me off saying this is private property.

I can only speak for the MSU property here in the EUP. It is considered public land.

Hi Chris
This would be a good question for boehr. I'd suggest you post this question in the "Questions about MI Hunting/Fishing Law."

As far as getting kicked off MSU land for fishing, that is public land and not private. However, even though it is public land, you do not necessarily have the right to fish there. If the Board of Directors say no hunting or no fishing, then we do have to stay off. Personally, I'd first make a call to MSU to find out for sure what they do and do not allow.

Good luck fella'a

I believe he meant fishing right on campus. It happened to me too. I believe the campus is considered private property...even though it is a public university.

If I told you the fish I have caught on campus, you would not beleive me. I have pics to prove it. There are some good fish at the right times ;)

As for fishing at MSU stay in the water and access it from off campus, nothing they can do about it. :D

Private property. It is the university's option if they want to allow the public there or not.

We know it's open to hunting, but as far as antlerless tags, which do we use? public or private?

please disregard my previous post as it doesn't make much sense. that's what happens after getting up every morning at 5am to go hunting. We understand it's private property and will be using our private land doe tags. Thanks, Chris

Are you speaking of the U of M property on D.Lake? I would use the public land doe tag. I think even though it's not state owned land it's still open to the public so I would consider it to be a "public" doe. Good question!
