Ok, I'm not sure on this....
Are rifle calibers allowed for coyote hunting AFTER deer season in Lower Michigan (Lapeer) or only slugs and arrows?
A farmer has asked me to take the coyote off his dairy farm and it is open hayfields for the most part. I would prefer to use my .06 if it is legal. Does it matter on private property?

As I understand it, the rifle law only applies to Deer hunting. Since coyotes are nuisance critters, and hunted for many months of the year, I think taking them out with anything is cool unless its a banned weapon. Boehr will probably respond with a better answer.

We hunt coyote out of Lansing with hounds and all of us use centerfires. I use to use a 25/06 but switched to minni-14 223 last year. Most of the guys I hunt with use 243 (there deer rifles) but would highly recomend using blastic tips what ever caliber you deside on. Good luck.

Thanks guys for the quick answers. I will take my 30.06 out and try it with some 165 grain BT's. I also have some left over 180 grain NP's from Africa but they are probably a bit much for busting dogs. I really prefer the rifle over shooting slugs. I'll be day hunting.
Splitshot, If you are using a .22 cal, are you aiming strictly for the head?

I've never hunted coyotes but I use 22 shorts to dispatch the ones I trap. One shot right through the ribs (vital area shot) and they go down fast. I'm sure that a 22 mag in the vitals will put em down in a hurry. Hope this helps.

I prefer a .22-250 or .223, but .243 would work fine.
The "no rifle rule" only applys during the firearm deer season.
Don't forget to take into consideration where you are hunting. Those bullets do go quite a long way.
