Can you say tenderloins? Thats what I'm talkin about!
This past week I hunted almost every afternoon after I got out of work. And every time I had deer walk out right in front of me within 5 minutes of sitting down in my stand. Needless to say they caught me off guard every single time. You'd think by the third time it happend I would have learned, but I didn't. And the tough part was that every time it happend that would be the only deer I would see for the rest of my hunt. So its kinda like I get to my stand and blow the perfect chance cause I'm not ready yet. Then I'm ready the rest of the time but I don't get any more chances. Uggh! Anyone else know the feeling?
Well this morning I was ready when several deer came running up the trail by my stand. I call it a stand but it's not a tree stand. I'm on the ground sitting in a natural blow down. Three of the deer ran right past and never stopped, but the next four all stopped out in front of me. I drew my bow and they must have sensed the movement cause they spooked a little bit and moved so that I didn't have a clean shot at any of them. Since they were all looking at me, I didn't want to make any movement. I stayed at full draw hoping one would step out into the open. It seemed like forever. My arms were burning and I didn't think I was going to be able to hold out much longer, but finally one of them stepped out. I took careful aim. Had to fight off the urdge to let the arrow fly as soon as I saw brown. When your arms are aching thats not an easy thing to do. I concentrated all my senses right behind her left shoulder and let the arrow fly. She jumped and imediately they all took off running but within about 50 feet the one I shot stops running and starts walking with her tail flickering real fast. Next thing I know she dropped right there. Less than 50 yds from where I shot her! I didn't even have to track her. She kicked a couple times but was dead in less than 10 minutes. Wish it was always that way! At any rate I said a prayer of thanks to God. I don't know if he helps me when I'm hunting or not. I imagine he has more important things to worry about, but I always thank him anyway.
Hope everyone else had a good day today. I know I did! Yee hah :D
