SWIMMING MOOSE HERDED ASHORE — A wary cow moose casts a suspicious glance at an approaching Coast Guard patrol boat shortly after daybreak Wednesday as the patrol boat and a Corps of Engineers survey craft attempted to herd the frightened animal to the Canadian side of Sault Harbor. The moose was spotted from the Corps Soo Locks Control Tower approaching the East Center Pier at the Locks, upbound about 7:52 a.m. Wednesday before the two boats eased her over to waiting Ontario wildlife crews a few hundred yards downriver. Once the moose regained her footing ashore, (inset) the tired cow was tranquilized and hoisted by crane onto a waiting truck and returned to a more rural setting. Intercepted in the security zone around the Soo Locks, the moose was found without proper boat registration or identification papers. (Photos courtesy of U.S. Coast Guard)

Last I heard it was a Canadian moose. The Boarder Patrol have it in custody now.

An article mentioned something along those lines and they want it back....????. But...1. How do they know that, it's doesn't have a collar or a tagged ear. 2. If so, why don't they come and get they're collared elk too then. 3. Why in the heck would border patrol have the dang thing caged up? Ticks me off. That animal crossed the border on it's own. It should be able to come and go as it pleases. "Hey, that's our moose and we want it back." Come On.

So do you want your deer back? Your bear back? Your fish back? Fine than give us all of our stuff back.

the USCG has a 'dry foot' policy on immigration -

Had the moose actually made to the US and had it's feet on dry land it would have been afforded a 'show cause' hearing to stay in the US. And likely would have been given huge tax insentives to stay. ;)

Because this moose was interdicted at sea, no such hearing is authorized and the perp could be returned to it's home country without due process.
:yikes:

I was kidding, I have no idea what happened to the moose. If the C.G had any involvement other than herding it to shore I'd know about it.

I wasn't attacking you. I was just mentioning that I read some statements from another article. I meant Canada too.

Oh, I know, I didn't take it that way.

I read the case file last night at work, the Canadians tranqued it and brought it over to Canada first thing. They were there to meet it when it swam ashore. I guess the Canadians are finally getting tough on boarder crossings.
