Heres the situation, I am deer hunting this spot which all I have premission to hunt is a fence rown overlooking a couple fields. There is woods that connects the field. Last year I had a treestand that was stolen from there. Tonight I was watching a bunch of deer in the field and I just happened to look towards the road and saw a white vehicle sitting by the road like they were almost watching the field. Then I had a gut feeling something was happening. I got done hunting and walked back to my truck and found a note on the windsheild saying "NO HUNTING OR TRESPASSING DONT DO IT AGAIN", so I get in my truck and turn were the vehicle was sitting and drove by it and then turned around and flipped my brights on and it looked liked there was someone sitting in it. I was going to stop to say something, but thought to myself, i have no clue who this is and he might have a gun or something like that with him. Here is were i screwed up, I shouldve probably got the license #, but proceed to got to the owners house(family) which is right on the property. She called a couple neighbors and they said they didnt do it and could care less if there is anyone hunting back there. I have been in a couple conflicts with people around there too. I was thinking the next time I go hunting out there to leave a note on my vehicle stating Im the only one to have permission to be back there and leave my # to call or park my truck back there and hide in the hedge row and wait till they come back because I am thinking that since they left the note they will be watching the field. I am kinda stumped here. Any suggestions??

I think if it were me I'd leave my truck and be waiting for them if they came back. For one, you need to find out just who this is for your own piece of mind, the safety of your property, and to let someone else know who they are. I'd take a piece of paper to write down any pertainant info and a Digital Camera to document it. If you have a CCW be careful about any situation you get into, you don't want to be the one that's confrontational. However, it was said here once (and I love this quote) "It's hard to blow your nose if you don't have a Hanky". Make sure someone else knows your plan, especially the landowner. Besides they may want to know who's hasseling their guests without them knowing it. Good Luck, Safety first. FRANK

IF you do happen to get their name or license # call the local CO. This is hunter harrasment, and the DNR takes that very seriously. Even if it is coming from another hunter. hunter harrasment doesn't have to be from a non-hunting PETA member. If you have the land owners permission to hunt there, then end of story. Get their license and call the CO

Still got the note? Stick it in a zip lock bag they have all sorts of ways to get fingerprints off of it. You can always hand it over to the CO and let them take care of it. Definately try the game camera but make sure its set on daytime only, you don't want the flash going off and the camera end up missing. Didn't you have a cell phone? Would of called the local PD and reported someone tresspassing on the property and let them take care of it.

I hunt some property owned by a guy who farms my blueberries. I put a note in my windsheild that says "hunting by permission of _____ _____" with my cell #. He's from a large old family and some of the land I have permission to hunt is acctually owned by his father. No problems to date.

Note idea sounds perfect. Except I would leave the owners number and your name so the person can reference it with the owner. End of problem. If not Call the CO.

Slammer,

It's time to take a deep breath. Everyone is jumping to conclusions here (hunter harrassment, guns, etc.).

It could well be that the person who put the note on your car thought you were actually on their property or that you were accessing their property through the property that you have permission to be on.

You blew your chance to solve the mystery when you didn't stop and talk to the guy on the side of the road (and it wasn't very polite to blast him with your bright lights either).

The best idea has been leaving a polite note on your windshield.

I'd like to see the look on the CO's face when you ask him to dust the note for fingerprints.

I'll have to agree with answerguy here. Hunter harassment? How? By leaving a note on a vehicle, not quite. Dust a note for prints? For what violation? I don't see any violation of law at this point. I can leave a note on any car I want that says, "NO HUNTING OR TRESPASSING DONT DO IT AGAIN". There is no law that says I can't. You guys are making an assumption as bad if not worse than the person did who left the note.

I am going to start to leave a note on my car. The only thing is that like I said, the property is family owned and I am the only one that has permission to hunt it, so who ever it is they are tresspassing. I got alot of eyes watching the field now....neighbors,cops,ect..so hopefully i can figure it out soon.

Are you sure the person in the white vehicle is the one who left the note? If he is a landowner and thought you were trespassing why wait there and then not confront you when you come out. If your parked & hunting where you have permission then at best you owe the note giver an ***** kickin for touching your truck.
Boehr, you don`t have a right to put anything on "MY" vehicle. That`s country boy law son!

I apoligize Boehr, just a figure of speech. Meant no disrespect to you with the "son" part. But the vehicle thing still could get ugly!

Again I`m sorry I offended you.

I'm not impressed by a person who's willing to go to blows just because someone touched their car. Sounds very juvenile to me. Or was that just a figure of speech too?

well,, heres my take. if you feel threatened call the law.
if you confront someone out there,,,even if your right,,, you could end up dead right.. just not worth getting into altercations. thats what law inforcement is for.

For one thing if the truck is parked on the property then the note giver is trespasing. 2) Make sure you are on the right side of the fence.so to speak know your 4 cornes of the land. 3) avoid all conflict at all cost.let the c/o handle it. I'ts about hunting not fighting. last make notes of all and bite your lip don't forget your a guest of the land.

Well there is trespassing and then there is trespassing. If I walk up to your house and ring your doorbell, technically I'm trespassing, but who's going to prosecute that? If I'm parked off the road on my own property and you walk up to my car and leave a note that says "Nice car would you like to sell it?" I'm not going to call the cops.
