Anyone have any experience with this location out of Wawa? Am planning on a week up there next Summer and was trying to get some feedback from other MI sportspersons...

I have never been to that lodge, but I highly recomend a resort about 45 min.s away called PK Resorts. They have a great set up all the way around. 16 ft. lunds with 15 horse 4 stroke mtrs, fish finders on every boat, and comfy seats. The fishing is awsome, pike, walleye, perch, and I even picked up a white fish last year. The web site is www.pkresorts.com (http://www.pkresorts.com). If you can get in to Granite Hill, I would suggest it.;) The other resorts on the lake are not bad, but GH is the best!

I stayed there about 5 years ago, the cabins were decent and priced pretty reasonably. The fishing was OK at best. We caught lots of small walleye and very few pike. Most of the fish we caught were down toward the river. There was tons of fishing pressure, there are a lot of cottages on the lake. We would pull up to a spot to fish and 15 minutes later a pontoon boat full of kids would be fishing right next to you. I think you will have this problem at any of the "drive in" lodges that are that close to Wawa. I have been to a couple of other lodges that were a lot better.

Thanks for the reply. Quite a different picture from what they show in their DVD, grand vistas with no one else on the lakes. We inquired about the place base on a recommendation, but we may reconsider now. We are used to a place with quite a bit of solitude, and we can get crowds here in SE Michigan, so why drive 475 miles one way for the same thing?.

Any one have any recommendation for American plan lodges in Canada within reasonable driving distance, non fly in? Better to get an honest evaluation versus a fluffy description by the owners/manangement...

Loch Island Lodge is pretty good. There are a few cottages on it but it is a big enough lake that you won't be fishing right next to someone. We stayed there about 10 years ago, there was a slot limit on the walleye not sure if they still have that or not. We caught tons of walleye nothing real big though. Definitely better than Totomenai....

There are some lodges in Ontario that are not only accessible by air, but also by train. I've been to Mar-Mac(Lake Esnagi) Lodge and it was alright.Ive also been to Luenenberger's Kag (Kagnagami) Lodge many times and this place is heaven. Esnagi is accesible by plane or train. Kag by plane only. Where ever you decide to go I'm sure you'll love it up there, I know I do. Have you ever been hooked up w/a 20# laker, while a cow moose is swimming 20ft. off your port bow,and an eagle and a black bear are fighting over some fish guts on a big white rock in the middle of the bay your fishing?:)
