I have been hunting in the Sephenson area for about 10 years now, last year I bought my own 40 mostly highlands with about 5 acreas of low land, gravel rode bordering one side and other properties surronding me. Wondering besides corn and game plots what scents are good to attract deers into my land. And what time is rut usually around in my area. And no one around me really hunts except one guy about 80 to the east of me which are highlands

Also does anyone know to buy bulk beets in that area or even corn for cheaper then gas station prices. ?????

I just got back from bow in Wallace, just a few miles down the road, we use a few pounds of corn with a few apples cut up in it. You need to start baiting about 7-10 days before you head out, and bait more than one post if possible (we bait 5). It was a slow year for the big guys, the largest deer I saw was a good 4 point.

During Rifle we do the same thing, however we have a tough time getting bucks to come into bait (they have other things on their mind!) but if you can, cut the longest shooting aisle you can through the woods (we have 150-200 yard cuts form the shacks), and catch them crossing it. The doe will come into bait and lure the bucks to you, then be ready to shoot...seriously you need to be quick on the trigger.

Good Luck!

OH! and for bait cross over to Wisconsin and get feed from a mill you can get about 2000-2200 pounds (I fill my F-150) for about ~$125 and then get burlap bags to bag it, that should last you the whole season!

I hunt a large dairy farm in Stephenson for about 12 yr now Deer wouldnt know what to do with a sugar beat. They all fed them cabbage, apples, corn there. I will be up there from Oct 20 thru 23 for a little bow hunting and blind finishing. You can go to rays feed mill in town or bark river mill in bark river. Dont expect real large deer in your area unless you give them good food all year and hunt does hard. We kill about 60 deer a year off our land and it still isnt enough. If you could see a corn field around the last part of Aug you would die. I have no idea how the farmers can compete with the deer bear and coons up there. I talked to our camp last year about select harvest and they all took to it well until 7:01 Nov 15 then it was its brown its down :bash: Oh well you win some and lose some. Pm me with road names that your place is by and maybe for gun season I will swing by and we can meet. Also rut has been mid to late oct thru nov.

Hey Red97 you describe the 40 my father-in-law sold last year, Does it have a small newer cabin with a small creek running along the border?? If so, PM me and tell me the name you bought it from, I can give you some advice on where to hunt there if its the same piece.

There are signs going up all over now for bait. There's three feed mills between stephenson and menominee 21 mile stretch.Corn and apple are about the best for bait around here.Where are you from?If you need specifics on buying baits get ahold of me at rancid@cybrzn.com.

Well the Property does have an old cabin not to far from it, not sure about the creek Its off of HWY 41, east then on oakwood rd. in Bagley. Also if anyone knows of anyone selling a 40 or two I would be interested in purchasing some more land.

Thanks for all the input !!!!!
