Due to circumstances beyond my control I have not been north since July. Can someone fill me in on the commute from Livonia to Standish area. I am planning on leaving Friday around 7 pm and returning Sunday eve. Any shortcuts.construction bypass info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Cub

Dont know if anything's changed from the weekend before last but I can tell you what I ran into........

US-23 from M-59 all the way to 75 has construction and some one lane traffic

Around the I-75/US-23 intersection in Flint is under construction.

North of Standish on I-75 was down to one lane, north and south.

You might wanna check the MDOT website for current construction updates........

Make sure you get off at the Standish exit. The last two Friday nights that I went up north I was stuck in construction traffic just after the Standish exit until the Rose City/Alger exit. Both times about 45 min to an hour.:bash:

Exit 75 at Kawkawlin, eat dinner at the turkey roost, arguably one of the best on the go eateries in the state, continue north on 23 till you hit standish. Avoid all the 75 shenanigans.

get on I-75 and take the 475 bypass around Flint. 275 north to M5 till it ends. Right on Pontiac Trail, left on Hagerty till it ends. Left on Richardson right on Union lake, right on Cooley Lake, Left on Williams Lake (the m-59 intesection is supposed to be done). Williams Lake all the way to Dixie HWY(locals know another shortcut, but only save you 5 minutes), left to I-75.

From I-275/M-5 you should be on I75(Clarkston about exit ??95) around a half an hour.
I can get to exit 131 in about an hour and I only have about a 15 minute headstart from I275/M5

If you take 96-23 It will probably take you 1.5 hours longer to get to the other side of flint.

........Williams Lake (the m-59 intesection is supposed to be done). Williams Lake all the way to Dixie HWY.......The new part of the M-59/Williams Lake Rd intersection/road is now open! And instead of using common sense and make the new road a nice sweeping curve from Gale Rd over to M-59 they've got a multiple "S" curve road course going on! Like being on a fricken road rally! Gonna be interesting come this winter and it get's a little snow on it thats for sure!

Oh, and it about ten or less years there will be a multi-million dollar study done on it, they'll determine it's a hazardous road, spend another bazillion dollars to tear it out and make the way it should have been if common sense was used in the first place!

Depending on traffic; Dixie and I-75, your about an hour to the bridge, hour and a half to Standish. But I'm not one to travel on Friday evenings if I dont have to. I like going to bed early, getting up around 3am and getting to my destination before the sun rises..... :D

Since you're coming from Livonia, I assume you will be taking I-96 to US-23. If this is the case, take Owen Rd. off US-23 and turn left on (West) to Linden Rd. Turn right (North) and take that to Miller Rd. Turn Right (East) back to I-75 and you have bypassed all of the traffic on US-23 South of Flint.

Get off at the Standish/Galdwin exit (188, I believe) to get to Standish.

Good Luck!

Thanks for all the tips guys. Last thing I want is to sit in a traffic jam on my way up for my first bowhunt of the year.

CubUnfortunatley the travel time you've picked is kinda "peak" time. Expect more and slower traffic at that time of the evening. I've given up leaving right after work unless I'm not in any hurry, or there's a Wing's game on at Hooters @Miller Rd in Flint or the one in Bay City....... :evilsmile

Good luck and have a great time! :)

I would agree
Get off on the 1st. exit after you go under US 10 I think exit164.
There is still some construction in Pinconning But it goes pretty good .
The Turkey Roost Is Pretty good to stop at.. My 2 Cents.
