Hey there fellow sportspersons. Here is the situation.

I got a new job earlier this summer and in the process of getting to know the guys around the office and shop, I discovered that there are a quite a few deer hunters here. One of the gentlemen I work with talked about a huge buck his dad and two other guys harvested around 1948. He said it was harvested in Tuscola county and it had 27 points and weighed 248 pounds. The deer mount was donated to a bar in Reese called Krinks or Kurnks. I am not sure of the spelling. He said his dad loved to tell the story of the hunt and carried a picture of the newspaper article in his wallet.

Anyway he was driving through Reese one day and noticed the bar was closed and is now an insurance agency and the deer head is gone.

I am not sure if he is looking to keep the head, but he would like to see it again and maybe get some better photos of it.

If anybody might have any knowledge of the where-abouts of this mount we would sure appreciate knowing where it is.

I have tried to post pictures of the deer, but this is my first shot at it. If it doesn't work, I appologize. I went back and found instructions on how to do it, so hopefully it works.

Thanks.

I am really good friends with the Village Clerk in Reese and work part time at the Funeral Home there. I will pass this along.

I think it was Krick's Bar.

Was that before Ultra Mags? How did they even knock that deer down?

Kind of puts you in your place when you think about the deer shot years ago without all the modern "necessities"

what a giant buck... you guys are right about all the scent blocker and things of that nature. my great uncle shot a buck around houghton lake way back when that scores around 200" un-officially. i still druel over it every time i see the mount.... i hope it will be passed on to me someday.

Awesome story and photos. I am fairly certain that 1948 was the first year you could hunt that county since the 1890's. In fact, it was the first year all of southern michigan was opened to deer hunting. That deer had probably never been hunted before. My father tells me about alot of deer like that being shot.

Great story and photos, keep us posted on the results. My parents bought an old log cabin in Glennie when I was a kid. When we moved in to clean the place there were two deer mounts in the house that the mice had made into homes, old suckers all falling apart. One was a monster 13 point buck. On the back of the mount was some writing that said " I took this buck in 1913 all by my lonsome" Kept the board, turned the mount into a great set of rattlin horns. Except I think they just scare away every deer that hears them.

I remember a buck being bought from a bar. I read it somewhere. Do not remember a picture of it, but it was a buck collector that bought it. Someone like the Legendary whitetails book people. I looked in a few books for it but did not see anything on it. It is unique enough rack i would sure think someone could remember where it went. Good luck!!

I have done some more research and it appears that it has been entered into CBM. They show it as being ranked 15th for michigan non-typicals.

The one i was thinking about i believe is hole in the horn buck. It was also located in a bar. If i am wrong on this someone please correct me. If it is in the CBM what name is it under? Is this avaliable on line to look at?

The "Hole in the Horn" buck that I know of is world class. Once you see that deer you will never get it out of your head. I think there is a replica at Cabela's if you are ever there. I believe it is the number 2 non-typical of all time and has a very interesting story behind it. I think it is currently owned by The Legendary Collection of Larry Hoffman.

I think this buck is entered into CBM as the 15th rank non-typical in michigan history. It is under the name Mac Seney, who is one of the guys in the newspaper clipping and was a friend of my co-workers dad.

As far as we know all the guys in the picture have since passed on, but I think Mac Seney had a kid who might be the owner now.

That is about where we stand right now. I am trying to get more information from my co-worker to see if he knows Mac's son or not.
